I sometimes enjoy going fishing with my father and this would allow us to catch some of the more palatable fish (salmon).

For all the waters of the ocean north of Horse Mountain and in Humboldt Bay: Closed to fishing in April. The remainder of the 2012 season will be decided in April by the PFMC and Commission and the section will be amended pursuant to the regulatory process. As a Yupik Eskimo from a rural area of Alaska, I have reasons to disagree with Carolyn Haggard of Wasilla and her statement of: “I believe that the mine and the fishery can coexist.” I strongly believe that one of Alaska’s most valuable resource- wild salmon, will, no doubt, be contaminated from the effects of the Pebble Mine in operation.…

Tribal fishermen continued to reef net until about 1894, when non-Indian fish traps out-competed them, according to the 1974 U.S. v. Washington ruling that reaffirmed tribal treaty fishing rights. A 1934 ban on fish traps in Puget Sound gave tribal fishermen renewed access to their traditional sites, but the 1939 opening of a cannery brought more competition from non-Indian fishermen who were able to reef net in more profitable locations. In the…

Our Chesapeake Bay policy is about buffer zones. We think that buffer zones should be implemented in rivers and streams that contribute to the Chesapeake Bay. If we add buffer zones it can stop eutrophication which has already created dead zones in the Chesapeake Bay. Dead zones are areas in the bay that have no oxygen and can’t support life. Also, buffer zones also anchor soil to the ground which prevents sediment pollution that can block sunlight killing hundreds of plants and animals. The final problem buffer zones can fix, is flooding, it can stop flooding in rivers and streams that can be damaging to homes and ecosystems. In total implementing buffer zones would fix 3 major problems with one simple…

There are some things in this world that mean more to us than we can explain. We as human beings have an existential connection to all of mother earth's creatures. We are approaching a dark time in the Klamath River, soon there will be no natural born salmon spawning up what was once one of the rivers that spawned the most salmon in the Pacific Northwest. The salmon that at one time flourished in the Klamath, are not able to reach their natural spawning grounds because the natural flow of the river has been altered by the building of dams, which is resulting in many salmon dying without having the chance to spawn. Currently, Klamath River fall chinook runs are less than 8 percent of their historical abundance. For coho salmon the numbers are less than 1 percent (Karuk). It would be a travesty to be a part of the generation that causes one of the most amazing fish in the world to disappear. We must do something to rectify the problem before it is too late.…

Maybe the economics of the fishing village could be affected if the whaling ban stops. People would earn little or almost nothing. I think fishers could find another source as fishes or another type to sell to survive. Besides, the preservation of the whales is important because whales can almost be existent soon and would be hard to reproduce them again to have the same number or more than exist today. In the other hand, people can have other sources to sell and would still live.…
