Adam Lance Garcia's Short Story 'The Continuing Mission'
In the short story "The Continuing Mission" by Adam Lance Garcia the two characters that stood out to me were Bah'rack and Dr.Biden. Even in this fiction story their heartwarming friendship was seen. With no doubt this short story had a unique and creative way of depicting political aspects in today's world. For instance, the characters portrayed in this short story were former President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Many controversies emerged during the Obama administration only because he became our first African American president. History was made and spreading rumors was inevitable
As Bah'rack volunteered to travel back in time to save the world from these enemies, Dr. Biden accompanied him so he wouldn't make a fool out

However, this calm atmosphere would soon be abruptly shattered by a lone gunmans bullets. Jesus Manuel Garcia, an employee of the China Garden Restaurant, had become distraught after his girlfriend broke up with him, lashing out saying he would “shoot somebody,” however, by the time his ex could alert someone, it was too late. Garcia began firing on the Restaurant with his glock 23, eventually chasing patrons into a nearby theater. Fortunately for bystanders, off duty Sgt. Lisa Castellano chased the Garcia into the bathroom whilst shooting him several times. Garcia was eventually…

They succeeded with help from a political heir, a loyal lieutenant. By contrast, presidents who kept their vice presidents and wing mans at a distance were more likely to be ‘cursed’. So the first thing author suggests to Obama is even if he can not succeed himself in 2016, he can chose a proxy to replace him. Secondly, Obama has the advantage of being young. Amar believes he can use his youth to stay involved with politics. Another thing the author believes is Obama needs to go bold and big with his ideas to find a legacy for himself. To sum it up, Amar believes that President Obama’s second term does not have to be filled with problems and the outlook of the future is bright for the president. Adam Clymer agrees with Amar. They both state that although Obama will have problems in the future, he does not have to be known as a lame duck president in his second term and his fate rests in his own…

In the excerpt from the autobiographical narrative by Gary Soto, the author uses vivid imagery, allusions to religion, and change in tone to recreate his experiences from his six year old self. Soto begins by involving the reader into the excitement that he feels while glaring at the freshly baked pies, he then vividly represents how he transgresses his valued religious principle, and steals the pie. He concludes by illustrating the aftermath, and describing the remorse that he underwent after realizing he had given into a reprehensible temptation.…

In Garcia’s study, she points out the different experiences that Latina girl’s and their mothers went through in terms of housework and outside labor. Mothers, for example, did paid labor outside the home and saw it as a necessity to being a good mother. Young Latina’s, however, often worked the “second shift” as well as their current job. This “second shift” is a term that was “introduced by sociologist Arlie Hochschild to describe the additional and unpaid labor done by some family members when they arrive from work.”(413) Some of these unpaid job duties include grocery shopping, cooking, running errands, household work and caring for the children. Latina mothers believed that working outside the home was essential to being a good mother as it allowed them to financially contribute to the family whether they were single or married women.…

The manner in which, Didion explains her personal story aids in the understanding of the concept of writing for an explanation. The use of the personal experience, causes an individual to understand the thinking process that contributes to the creation of Didion’s stories and why she writes. Imagination becomes a vital role in the process of writing, thus the use of rhetorical questions can often be seen throughout the essay. The author is able to create space and time for the characters within their story, causing the writer to develop a sense of god-hood. Just as Didion uses stories to enhance her explanation and purpose for writing, President Obama uses historical stories to emphasize prosperity and patriotism. In order to convince the audience that he is correct, Obama uses stories to intensify a sense of “listen to me, see it my way, change you minds”. Although the words may appear to have a negative connotation, Obama utilizes this sense to impose prosperity, as he states, “Sixty years ago, when Russia beat us into space…We didn't argue about the science, or shrink our research, and development budget. We built a program almost…

Description of assignment: Compose an anthology of thirteen quotations drawn from the materials assigned for the first three sections of this course (Parts I, II and III). The anthology will consist of a preface, short commentaries on each quotation, and a conclusion. The anthology should be governed by a theme (or a set of two topics aligned to the concerns of the first four sections of the syllabus) that offer a way to unite together the diverse materials for this course. The best anthologies (those that will receive an A or A- grade) will be ones where the theme enables the student to inquire into the complexities of American culture and where both the structure and content of the midterm manifest democratic thinking (i.e., examining an issue by looking at it from multiple points of view) and integrative thinking (i.e, finding similarities or making syntheses between separate, diverse voices).…

When reading President Coolidge’s autobiography, I was fascinated by his constant calmness and his love of learning. He kept a level head even in stressful situations, he didn’t strive for glory, and the people he was closest to developed him into the great man he was. I feel as if I can relate to President Coolidge in many ways. I am not a flamboyant person, I don’t want the spotlight nor do I really care for it, I like being the person behind the scenes. I believe President Coolidge was this person, but he wasn’t cold or uncaring, he always had an open-mind and respected the views of his predecessors. He, just so happen, to have the opportunity to hold the highest office in our nation. He worked hard and he was recognized, eventually, for his work which led him to the Oval office. I want to…

Issue one from the McKenna text presents two divergent political philosophies from Humanities professor Wilfred M. McClay and Historian Howard Zinn regarding the concept of American exceptionalism. McClay and Zinn provide convincing arguments as they support their contrasting viewpoints with key examples from American history on the question, “Should Americans believe in a unique American mission?” On one hand, McClay offers a belief in the unique American “mission” as interconnecting with our Founding Fathers through divine providentialism. On the other hand, Zinn rejects this notion asserting that restraint from the mythical belief of American exceptionalism will suppress combative desires.…

The short tale of Harrison Bergeron is something that isn't very new to me. Way back in high school, we were tasked to read this in one of our Literary Circles sessions. I took a quick look at it and particularly enjoyed how short the story was. Today, having finally read a good selection of interesting stories, I decided to take a deeper and much more complete look at it. I can definitely say that despite it being rather short, Harrison Bergeron was a story just oozing in meaning and symbolisms.…
