Acts Of Evil In Shakespeare's Othello
Acts of Evil Throughout history, numerous acts of evil have occurred. The Holodomor is an act of evil that affected many people in a pessimistic manner. Holodomor is the Ukrainian word for “killing by hunger.” Josef Stalin, communist leader of the Soviet Union, initiated this act of evil. Josef Stalin forced an extermination of the Ukrainian race by starving the citizens in the years 1932 to 1933. The Holodomor killed approximately 5.5 million people. Stalin had a goal of eliminating the Ukrainian race and their independence. Evil also exists in multiple works of literature. In William Shakespeare’s Othello, the Moor of Venice, acts of evil take place, which result in a horrific downfall.

Iago plots to destroy the lives of others by interfering with relationships. “Tis here, but yet confused. / Knavery’s plain face is never seen till used” (II.i.305-306). Iago is plotting his evil plan to destroy the marriage between Othello and Desdemona. Iago infers that his plan is evil, and the evilness will shine through, once the evil acts are completed. This makes Iago evil because he is planning destruction. Iago’s goal is to devastate Othello’s life. In addition, Iago causes destruction to his friends and wife. Iago manipulations results in the death of many people, including his wife and Roderigo. “The woman falls! Sure he hath killed his wife. / Ay, ay. Oh, lay me by my mistress’ side. / He’s gone, but his wife’s killed” (V.ii.250-253). Once Iago’s plan reveals, and his lies are being poured out to him, he kills his wife. He now realizes that he has caused a mass destruction. This act is evil because he destroyed the world of many innocent people. Iago’s process is evil because his actions lead to the destruction of many innocent people’s lives. His actions cause a marriage to split, and results in the death of several innocent people.
