Acid And Bases Lab Report
Results: For the solutions acid and bases lab the results my group received are as followed. Procedure 5.1 were we had to measure the ph of the following substances
Vinegar 4
Apple Juice 4
Black coffee 5
Baking Soda + Sprite 8
0.01mM HCl 4
0.1mM HCl 3
Distilled water 4.5
Tap Water 5

Procedure 5.2
-Test the ability of buffers

Before Buffer After Buffer
Water 4 Water 4
0.1M phosphate buffer 6.5 0.1M Phosphate buffer 6.9
0.1M NaCl 4 0.1M NaCl 4.8

Procedure 5.3
-Test effectiveness of antacids
Alka seltzer 115
Antacids 90 (AVRG)
Tums 80 (AVRG)

Discussion: for procedure 5.1 all that was required was to use the ph strips and test all the liquids. there was various ways errors could occur in just this

Acetic acid, a pungent smelling colourless liquid having sour taste, used very commonly in the chemistry laboratories. It got its name from Latin word Acetum, which means vinegar. Pure acetic acid is also called glacial acetic acid, because in winters it freezes easily as temperature goes below 16-17°C. Therefore it looks like as if a small glacier is there in the bottle, hence called glacial acetic acid.…

Bases are substances that are in aqueous solution, are slippery to the touch, taste bitter, change the color of indicators Examples turn red litmus paper blue and react with acids to form salts, promote certain chemical reactions. General properties of a base are Concentrated or strong bases and are caustic on organic matter and react violently with acidic substances. Also bases can are bitter in taste. And the pH of a basic solution at standard conditions is greater than seven. Strong bases are a basic chemical compound that can remove a proton (H+) from (or deprotonate) a molecule of a very weak acid in an acid-base reaction. Example of a strong base is lithium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide and strontium hydroxide just name a few but there…

The purpose of the current experiment was to determine the pH of various hydrochloric acid and acetic acid solutions, to determine the pH of various salt solutions, to prepare a buffer solution, and determine the effects of adding a strong acid and strong base to the buffer solution versus adding a strong acid and strong base to water. The measured pHs for the hydrochloric acid solutions were 1.6, 2.2, 2.9, and 3.8. The measured pHs for the acetic acid solutions were 2.9, 3.9, 4.2, and 4.4. The pHs measured for the salts were 4.3 for sodium chloride, 7.3 for sodium acetate, 8.9 for sodium bicarbonate, 10.8 for sodium carbonate, 7.9 for ammonium chloride, and 6.9 for ammonium acetate. The pH for the buffer solution and the strong acid was 3.9 and the pH for the buffer solution and the strong base was 11.6. The pH of water with the strong acid added was 3.44 and the pH of water with the strong base added was 13.4…

Determining the Properties of Different Acids and Bases Yamin Liu November 16th, 2017 Chemistry 1021 Section: 427 Benton Smith Discussion of Results The goals of this experiment were to find the identities of four unknown compounds and to first determine the pH. We then were required to run a series of anion and cation tests to determine the composition of the unknown solutions. To get more knowledge about these solutions we ran a series of dilutions to see if anything changed. Finally we tested the pH of household items and ran titration experiments with them to have a better look at environmental impact for safe disposal. When we received the four different samples they were labeled as A6, B6, C6 and…
