Achilles And Sam Witwicky: Transformers Hero
Transformers Hero Quest

“Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed. It is all part of the fairy tale.” --Peter S. Beagle. This statement can tell us a lot about heroes. It means that no matter what you have to do and no matter who you are, we all must find the strength inside of us to become a hero when it is our time. The movie Transformers fits the definition of mythology by administering lots of it’s qualities. The movie teaches us how we should act if we are ever put into a situation that calls for us to act as a hero. Now a days people enjoy a great movie! Movies have become one of the biggest ways for our culture to show it’s most important literature. In the movie Transformers Sam Witwicky is just an average teenage boy, until one day he buys an

But it also has contradictions. For instance, Achilles is a strong and fearless warrior and Sam Witwicky is just an average, everyday run of the mill teenager. He does not know that his great grandfather Archibald Witwicky made one of the world’s greatest discoveries, until the Autobots find him and tell him that the fate of the world lies in his hands. Achilles and Sam Witwicky are very different, yet at the same time they share many qualities. They both know what they must do to save/protect their world/kingdom. But they also know that they will face many challenges ahead. Achilles will always have a great rivale with Agamemnon and the Greeks like Sam Witwicky will with Megatron and the Decepticons. There are also some differences that these two heroes have. Achilles has quite a temper and is also very prideful. Sam Witwicky is sweet and caring, and along his journey he becomes a leader. Every hero needs a sidekick or wingman! Achilles has Patroclus and Sam Witwicky has Michela. These “sidekicks/wingmen” help the heroes throughout their journey realize their full potential and the values they want to uphold as

In the Iliad, the characters of Hector and Achilles carry similar traits, although a deeper investigation into each character will show some stark contrasts between the two. Victory and defeat is not the most telling sign as to which is the greater hero of the two. There are flaws within each character and each one fights to overcome them throughout the story. By the end, it is clear which one emerges as the most appropriate symbol of a hero. The character of Achilles is greater than the character of Hector because he was able to overcome more of his character flaws to become a more realistic portrayal of what a heroic character should be.…

Achilles is classic literatures' greatest characters ever engraved on paper. Achilles, son of Peleus, King of Myrmidons, and Thetis, sea nymph, comes to Troy as part of a Greek force led by King Agamemnon. Unlike most protagonists, Achilles does not develop significantly over the course of the epic. As the story unravels Achilles wrath for Agamemnon intensifies, but only after the death of Patroclus does he redirect his rage towards Hector. Achilles' bloodlust, wrath, and pride continue to consume him. As a result he mercilessly mauls his opponents and does not relent in this brutality until the last book when King Priam begs for the return of his son's desecrated corpse. Achilles embodies the characteristics…

Classical heroes, both in their characteristics and their missions, heavily influence contemporary superheroes. Like most modern works of literature, comics are also influenced by some of the greatest sagas ever told. Many comic authors base their hero’s and villains off of ancient Greek and Roman stories. The stories are very easy to adapt to modern circumstances because they all deal with ageless lessons. Although the ancient authors created their characters hundreds of years ago, they were used to teach the people of ancient Greek and Rome the same lessons that are needed even today, such as humility and duty to the state. One of the most famous Greek mythological characters is Achilles. His character has directly influenced the creation of multiple contemporary characters. However, the most famous hero that he influenced is Superman, the most commonly known comic book hero. They both have many similarities, from the very obvious weaknesses to the minutest details, such as their archrivals. However, the similarities that are deeper than the visual observations are the ones that have made both characters timeless. Through their adventures, both Achilles and Superman are able to demonstrate some of the most sought after characters, which can also be seen in almost every successful human being. Both fictional characters also have a few, but fatal weaknesses, which leads to their constant struggle to stay in power.…

Their existence is necessary to inspire hope in generations of those struggling to survive and to find meaning in their lives. Two examples of great role models, both past and present, for learning how to overcome obstacles and succeed are: Gilgamesh and Superman. During their obstacle-filled journeys of achieving goals, both heroes experience failure and success. In addition, both heroes receive critical help along the way.…

Achilles would not have made a very popular quarterback in todays society. As the ancient Greeks defined heroism, he fits the title of Hero perfectly. He is the son of a goddess, the best and most capable warrior in the entire Achaean army, and has conquered many places. However, the actions of Achilles in "The Iliad" by Homer, or rather the inactions, would have ue hero might focus on conquests he has yet to do, where as Achilles seems obsesseerased him from common knowledge, if not opened him to public ridicule in modern times. According to societys general standards, a hero is someone who is not simply strong and brave, but someone who is humble, self-sacrificing, and capable of many other things, especially forgiveness. Achilles fails to display these essential characteristics in the Iliad. His lack of compassion and stubborn refusal to ignore his wounded pride cancel out his god-given attributes and do not earn him the title of Hero.…
