Acceleration
It's a hot summer and in the depths of the Toronto Transit Authority's lost and found, 17-year-old Duncan is cataloging misplaced belongings. And between Jacob, the cranky old man who runs the place, and the endless dusty boxes overflowing with stuff no one will ever claim, Duncan has just about had enough. Then he finds a little leather book filled with the dark and dirty secrets of a twisted mind, a serial killer stalking his prey in the subway. And Duncan can't stop reading. What would you do with a book like that? How far would you go to catch a madman? This is the teaser to an amazing book I read “Acceleration” By: Graham McNamee. Duncan the main leading character of the story discovers a journal belonging to what he thinks is a serial killer and he uses his knowledge of profiling as well as the clues from the journal to try to decipher who the serial killer is and who are his intended victims before the serial killer strikes. Duncan is a bad kid that’s been in trouble with the law who has been sent to work at the Toronto Transit Commission's lost and found in order to complete his two-months of community service. He and his friend Wayne were sentenced to community service after Wayne convinced Duncan to break into a new apartment building to steal an expensive toilet that they could sell to his uncle for some quick cash. The two teens end up getting caught when the toilet falls down the stairs and alerts the cop on duty that night.
At his new job, Duncan finds a journal chronicling some person's sick experiments with mice but he doesn't know whether he should report it since the journal has no details about who its author is. Duncan continues reading the diary and finds out that the writer might have been responsible for a recent fire in his neighborhood. As he reads further, he notices that the person seems to be chronicling all his crimes since he was young until he's older. Duncan finally reads that the person is tired of the “little crimes” and wants

Duncan Meade enters the Irving School a senior this year. As a school tradition, each senior gets their own dorm room without having to share it with anyone. On the first day of school, each senior will go to the senior hall and find their room; and in the room, there will be "treasures" left behind for them from the previous senior who lived there. Duncan has one fear: he is afraid to find out if the smallest room in the hall belongs to him. And of course, it does. The treasures the previous owner, Tim Macbeth, leaves behind for Duncan is a note and a stack of CDs. Those CDs play the recordings of Tim's story for Duncan as the "meat of your Tragedy Paper," which is the Irving School's senior English paper to be handed in at the end of the…

questions: force and motion I problem 1 The figure below is an overhead view of a 12 kg tire that is to be pulled by three ropes. One force (Fl, with magnitude 50 N) is indicated. Orient the other two forces F2 and F3 so that the magnitude of the resulting acceleration of the tire is least, and find that magnitude if (a) F2 = 30N, F3= 20 N; (b) F2= 30 N, F3 = 10 N; and (c) F2 = F3 = 30 N.…

An air track is an apparatus that simulates the effects of frictionless motion. A known mass is attached to an air-cart on an air-track apparatus. Attached by string, the air-cart is pulled by the known mass when hung over a pulley. A spark timer will mark the motion at a frequency of 10 Hz (10 dots/s) on a strip of paper called ticker tape. The air-track will supply air through the apparatus to simulate a frictionless environment, enabling the system of masses to move without an applied force or a frictional force. This experiment will measure the motion of an air cart attached to a known mass by string moving on an air track using kinematics and dynamics concepts. The kinematics concept of uniform accelerated motion and the dynamics concepts of Newton’s Second Law and systems of masses will be used. The equations relating to these concepts are: d ⃑= (v_i ) ⃑t+ 1/2 a ⃑t^2 and F_net=ma ⃑ . The accepted value of acceleration due to gravity is .…

The work done by the fan cart is not constant. Because the work is directly proportional to the displacement given a constant force while power is indirectly proportional to work. Therefore we can conclude that power is also directly proportional to the displacement given a constant force. If the applied force is constant as the work rises so does the displacement and power as shown in the experiment. In the second part of the experiment when an object is lifted up in a curve motion its gravitational potential energy increases. Based on the experiment we conclude that the work done on the curve path is directly proportional to the gravitational potential energy.…
