Academic Integrity And Cheating
Academic integrity stands for honesty in scientific work by properly giving credit where credit is due. It is a moral code that should prevent plagiarism or cheating. Ideas, thoughts or intellectual property of other authors must be identified. That is what direct and indirect citations are used for. A proper quote has to mention the origin or the source of the text excerpt. The common practice is to put the author’s last name and the date of the research in brackets next to the end of the text and show details of the source in a bibliography. Or place a footnote or a reference list with the details. Therefore, readers know that this paragraph has been used for the purpose of the research and who the author of that text is.     Tommy Raskin in Cheating Students (2013) asserts that our schools fail the humanistic vision of education. Tommy supports this assertion by reviewing the 2010 study conducted by Josephson Institute of Ethics that found 59 percent of high school students had cheated on a test in the past year, and over 33 percent had cheated more than twice.
