about me
In life, everyone has things to do and deadlines to meet. For an adult learner, time appears to be even more valuable since it often feels as though everyone wants a part of it. Share with the class what you do to manage your time and why this strategy appears to work for you. Consider managing time not only to complete your schoolwork but also to accomplish what is expected of you on a daily basis. Then, reflecting on your readings and your investigations into the various resources provided, provide one new tip you intend to put into practice to help better manage your time now that you have added going to school as one of your responsibilities.

Since I have started class it has been very difficult to manage my time between going to work and coming home to do my assignments that are due. To be more effective, I decide to make a list of the things I need to do and the date on which they are due on. Normally, I work about fifty to seventy hours a week, ten in the morning until eight or later at night. I typically do my assignments when I get home from work. When I have extra time I try to do some assignments before they are due so that it will keep me ahead in the class. I dedicate my nights to doing work. I get home around nine. If I have done all the other things that I need to do I will more than likely start on my work around ten o’clock. I have two classes as of now and I try to spend two hours doing work for each class. It can be very demanding and some nights I am very tired. Sometimes I am too tired and end up falling asleep. When I am feeling up to par I try to do as much work as I can to compensate for the nights that I slack on.

With respect to achieving the above objective, I intend to do some reading around the topic of time management. I have already worked my way through the Time Management Topic Guide and picked up some useful ideas and thoughts (for example I have experimented with setting goals and keeping a time log). I have begun to build on that by researching other resources on the internet of which there is a vast selection. In addition, a colleague has recommended the One…

When I have a load of work to do, I manage my time efficiently by sitting down, playing music, with no distractions, and get work done before the assignment’s due date. As soon as I receive a task, whether it be due in a month or the next week, I write it down in my planner, phone, and computer to remind myself to complete my homework. Procrastination is never a problem for me since I plan ahead and stay organized. This allows me to have free time on my weekends, relax from school, and not have to worry much about homework or studying. I’m not employed therefore I have plenty of free time to think about my assignments and give my best effort. Col 101 has taught me how to set my priorities and inspire myself to work hard by adding a treat of some sort to our study time. Listening to this advice helped me find enjoyment in studying for long periods and avoiding struggle or falling behind in my…

    1. Make to do lists. This is something that I already do to a degree in my personal life, but not as often as I should. I plan on implementing this to help me achieve my educational goals. Lists help organize things by importance and act as a reminder to finish tasks I might leave behind. Personally when I complete tasks on my lists I feel a sense of accomplishment and have more desire to tackle some of the harder tasks on my list. I will begin to implement this time management skill with this class, and carry it over to block 2 through Gateway Community College.…

My plan is simple, but requires consistency in order for it to work. I will check the syllabus for whatever class I am currently in at the beginning of each week, and based on what is due that week, I will go through my schedule and plan my days out accordingly. I have found it easiest to do as much work as possible in the beginning of the week, so as not to feel pressured and rushed to finish once I get close to the due date, so I will continue to do that. Really, I suppose consistency IS my plan. So much of it has to do with time management, and I will have to ensure that I am giving myself enough time each day to check in and respond to discussion questions and my classmates, plus turn my assignments in early or on time. Nobody else is to blame if I drop the ball on turning in an assignment, or mismanage my time. I need to make sure to prioritize my class work above many of the other trivial things that tend take up time in my day. Technology and the Internet are amazing resources and necessary tools to have when in school but also can be a major…

When working on homework, I do not procrastinate that much; most of the time I try to get as much done in study hall as possible. When I get home, I change into comfortable clothes and get a quick snack in order to complete my homework with minimal distractions. I give my phone to my mom so I do not text anyone, unless it applies to homework, and watch television shows; however, I do sometimes listen to music while doing my homework. I am involved in multiple activities, so I always move ahead if possible. I also plan ahead as much as I can and use my agenda for planning and scheduling different events, activities, and homework; in my agenda, I color coordinate each class and highlight the assignments once I finish them. I also like to…

Before I entered high school, I had very little homework. I would come home after school at 5 pm. When I got home I would eat something and relax for 1 hour and then I would start my homework around 6 pm. Most times, it would take my 15-20 minutes to finish my homework. If I had any projects or other work to do, it would extend my work time to about 1 hour. But that all changed once I got to high school. Once I got to high school, I would get home at 7 and as soon as I got home, I had tons of homework. I start my homework at 7:30 pm and if it is normal homework, then I am done at about 9 pm. If I have project or other work, I have to work until 11 pm. And that is without AP human geography homework, which itself takes 1 hour per night.…

There are two very important things I try to always remember when trying to balancing work and school. Responsibility which plays a big part in having good time management. If I am not responsible then it doesn’t mean anything. I have learned to be responsible and try to keep up my school work. To be responsible you must have determination. Determination to me is a very important skill when trying to stay focused on school. Part of being responsible is staying on task with what needs to be done. You need determination to complete your goals and the best way to do that is don’t forget what you are working for. For example I am finding it very hard to stay focused while working and taking care of my everyday things in life. I always remind myself of how important, what I am working for. I know that school can be tough to maintain on top of family and friends but also I know that it plays a vital part in my objective. So staying determined in excelling in school always comes first and as long as I remember that, I can balance my life much easier. My name is Kristina. I am in my late twenties, I live with my partner and have no kids. Right now I am working at a resort doing front desk and also working at Jiffy Lube and attending school so you can say I work 3 jobs. I have a pretty set schedule wake up go to work and come home. Every day I have to try to make time for my studies. So, it is important to make the decisions selecting careers and jobs, allocating roles and responsibilities that will provide the opportunity for balance. The real task of balance takes place on a weekly and daily basis. So many people like me stress so much because of this task but they don't know it can be very simple. Like myself lots of people do not have the time to go to a classroom when you have a jobs and/or a family to support and spend time…

I set up a schedule to keep me organized from the moment I wake up to the time I go to bed. I knew that sticking to it would be hard, but not impossible. It was important to set up a schedule because I was getting behind on my school work. I wake up in the morning and feed my baby, give my son breakfast and then get him ready for school. Having a schedule is very important because that is how you will see how organized you are and if any changes are needed to have time for school.…

School can consume our daily life. Do one thing at a time, divide your time between daily schoolwork and other responsibilities outside of school. Doing too much at once can be daunting. Can’t say “no”. This arises from a wish to please everyone and suggests a failure to define what’s really important. Simplify your goals. Decide what you need to do and can do, and say” no” to whatever interferes. (Yager, 2003) There are a multitude of factors that contribute to time management. We can waste time by watching TV, texting, checking e-mails, surfing the web, playing games or hanging out with friends. It is not a constructive way to use time. These factors can also be attributed to procrastination. Time management and procrastination go hand in…
