Abortion in Today's Society
In our country today we have many hot button issues. One of the most discussed matters being abortion. There are two main parties in this controversy that have very differing views on abortion. There are the pro- life people who believe that abortion is wrong and want it to be illegal. On the other side there are Pro-choice people who believe it is the choice of the woman on whether or not to bare a child full term or terminate the pregnancy. These two views have the support of many politicians and partially determine they way people vote. In this research paper we will address the differences in beliefs on abortion, the legal side of it, the political side, and the medical facts that are behind this controversy.

Abortions are quite common 1 in 3 woman have reported to have had abortion by the time they are 45. There are two different types of abortion. You can have an in-clinic abortion or take the abortion pill. The in-clinic abortion can be done it two ways, aspiration or dilation and evacuation. In aspiration they insert a vacuum like tube into the patients cervix and empty the uterus. Aspiration is used up to 16 weeks after you last period and is the most common in-clinic procedure. The other in-clinic procedure is dilation and evacuation in this procedure that used medical tools and a suction machine to empty the uterus. In abortions that are later

After this is complete, the method of aborting the embryo or fetus is chosen. There are three early abortion options that can effectively and safely terminate a pregnancy. These methods of abortion can be performed during the first trimester of your pregnancy (1-12 weeks). One method includes ‘Vacuum Aspiration’ which include two methods. One is Manual vacuum. This procedure can be used around 5 to 12 weeks after the last menstrual period (early first trimester). It involves the use of a specially designed syringe to apply suction. This method is not available everywhere, but it may be more available than machine aspiration in some geographic areas. Second is Machine vacuum. This procedure is a common method used in the first 5 to 12 weeks (first trimester) of pregnancy. Machine vacuum aspiration involves the use of a hollow tube that is attached by tubing to a bottle and a pump, which provides a gentle vacuum.     Planned Parent Hood explains two different ways to abort a fetus; in-clinic abortion and the abortion pill. There are two in-clinic abortion types, aspiration or dilation and evacuation (D&E). Aspiration is used during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy and D&E is used after 16 weeks of pregnancy. An aspiration abortion is performed by inserting a tube through the women’s cervix into the uterus and then with either a hand-held suction instrument or a suction machine, the uterus is gently emptied. Sometimes after that is completed an instrument called a curette is used to remove any other tissue remaining in the uterus. D&E is basically the same thing as an aspiration abortion except the mother receives a shot in the abdomen area to make sure the fetus’s heart stops beating before performing the procedure. The abortion pill can only be used the first nine weeks of pregnancy. Taking the abortion pill blocks the hormone progesterone which makes the lining of the uterus break down and doesn’t let pregnancy continue. Three days after taking the abortion pill you take another pill called misoprostol which causes the uterus to empty and this usually causes cramps and heavy bleeding.
