Abortion became legal in the United States in 1973. There are two different types of abortion women can get, the “abortion pill” also known as the “morning after pill” or surgical abortion. Many risks come with the abortion procedure afterwards, but women barely think on that. Everyone has their own point of view on abortion. Pro-life is when women are against of taking a baby’s life and Pro-Choice are women who say you have the right if you want to get rid of your child. People are debating about teen abortion, some people believe teens should have their parent’s approval and some people believe they shouldn’t need their parent’s approval. Recently, they are passing laws in few states about teens having to have their parent’s approval to get an abortion. The main question many ask each other is will they allow their teen to get an abortion without them knowing or taking them to get one. Many agree with the law because they believe teens should talk to their parents about making this important decision and many disagree thinking it’s their decision on if they want the baby or due to not wanting to affect their relationship with their daughters.
According to Burdick, people believe that letting their teen get an abortion is very risky. Teens have difficulty talking to their parents about pregnancy. Whether their relationship with their parents is good or bad every teen is uncomfortable to get on the subject. Any parent would like to know what’s going on in their teen’s life because that’s when they are learning the most and are still confused about things. Teens should be able to make that one decision their own about what they believe is best to do. Teenagers should be able to go to their Doctor for the procedure without their parents knowing what goes on at every visit.
