ATA Personal Statement
I came to ATA because I’m in the Connect program and to take the fire rescue course here at the ATA. I choose fire rescue because I like to help people out in situations that they are facing in their life. Also, at the ATA, we do a lot of hands-on and verbal materials in the fire rescue course and pass all of the certifications to become a firefighter. My other goal is to go to Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) for my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In a few years after I get my EMT I will go back to HGTC for my Paramedic License and get paid to do this type of work every time I’m on shift. Analyzing as a firefighter has revealed that it suits my Introvert, iNtuition, Thinking, Judging (INTJ) personality. My Visual learning style, and my skills are doing hands-on materials. However, A will have to improve a little bit more communication to others in my field to be …show more content…

Not all places have upgraded or been allowed to upgrade to better equipment due to their budget. If the firefighters had better equipment to help stop wildfires maybe the wildfires we had this year wouldn’t have taken so long to put out or destroyed as much property. The uniforms they wear are designed to tolerate the heat of the wildfires. But there has been some that have burnt through because the fire was hotter than it could handle. But with the technology we have today this age could probably design a completely fireproof uniform. How would we pay for it? Because most of the firefighters that fight the wildfires are volunteers from all over the country and come from their own departments. Where would we get the supplies, scientists, and lab to even try to figure out how to make a completely fire proof uniform that withstands all heat temperatures. This wouldn’t exactly be a way to prevent wildfires but more of a way to keep our firefighters safe and able to fight to the fire…

My parents wanted me to go to Young Harris where there is nothing to do, like Pickens, to assure I wouldn’t get into any trouble. I didn't want that for myself, I knew I wanted a semi-city environment to help transition into a more busy area such as Atlanta, where I plan to move post graduation. After long nights of arguing about my future, my parents finally gave in and let me enroll at KSU. After enrolling at KSU I declared my major as Biology. As far as long term goals go I aspire to be a dermatopathologist and plan to later enroll into medical school. I was offered to chance to join a learning community so I took advantage of the opportunity as the email I received portrayed it to be a very beneficial experience. But at the same time I am a “first generation” student and I have absolutely no idea what i'm doing or if joining the community was ,or is, a great decision. I’m not exactly sure what I'm supposed to gain but I'm hoping for more individualized learning and the opportunity to be comfortable enough to ask for help in my classes.…

The issue today’s fire service is how to justify fire departments operating budgets when the rate of actual calls for structured fires are on the decline. Post 9/11 the federal government set aside millions of dollars in grant money for apparatus equipment and training supplementing operational costs of fire departments across America. With the depletion of those federal monies, local governments are scrutinizing their budgets overall in attempts to cut corners and keep the cost within reason. Even though all aspects of municipal budgets succumb to scrutiny, fire departments are no exception. The operational cost of million-dollar fire stations, manpower half-million-dollar apparatus with the one-hundred-thousand-mile replacement…

Abilene Christian University exceeds my expectations of a Christian University. I would like to go to a school that not only calls themselves "Christian" but actually acknowledges Jesus Christ as the rock of their school and education. Personally, God comes first in my life, a university that feels the same is absolutely magnificent! My beliefs are such that it is not about a religion but rather a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. I do not belong to a denomination, I belong to God only because the relationship that we have is much greater than any religious personnel could give me.…

In 2014, there were 1,298,000 fires reported in the United States killing 3,275 civilians in the process. It is scary to think, without firefighters, what would happen to those numbers. The casualties would have easily been doubled, possibly tripled then what it already was. Firefighters are courageous men and women who risk their safety and lives everyday to prevent fires from getting out of control and taking the lives of citizens. Firefighters do not get paid enough for the physical needs demanded on them, the risks that they face every day, and generally what they go through day in and day out.…
