APA Code Of Ethics Case Study
Examining ethical codes from two prominent organizations for consulting psychologist (American Psychological Association) and coaching (International Coaching Federation), identified that both organizations share ethical ideologies that address practitioner behaviors. These principles include competence, integrity, informed consent, avoiding or effectively managing multiple relationships, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, being multiculturally and internationally competent (Lowman, 2012). However, according to Lowman (APA) the American Psychological Association (APA), Code of Ethics has been used as a model for many other professional organizations.
Thus, the APA Code of Ethics (20150) provides ethical guidance applicable for not only consulting psychology but also coaching. Two of APA code of ethics that align the practice of consulting and coaching include (1) Conflicts Between Ethics and (2) Organizational Demand and Assessments by Unqualified Persons.
1. Conflicts Between Ethics and Organizational Demand
Occurrences, when a coach's client ask the coach to perform actions to support the organization, but will have ethical consequences for the coach, causes an ethical dilemma for the coach. For, example when a coach’s sponsor request that the coach …show more content…

APA Code of Ethics 9.07 addresses Assessments by Unqualified Persons by stating how coaches should reframe from using or promoting assessments for which they personally have not been trained or any other person(s) charged with using the assessment does not have proper training. The APA (2010) states, “psychologists do not promote the use of psychological assessment techniques by unqualified persons, except when such use is conducted for training purposes with appropriate supervision” … (p.
