AP Physics Personal Statement
I have been interested in science and math since I was reading books with science experiments in second grade. Applying math and science skills to solve everyday problems has intrigued me from an early age. I am always curious about how things work. Since taking AP Physics this year, I have been able to appreciate how math and science work together. I have taken other rigorous courses, but often it felt like learning math was isolated from other coursework. Math challenges me to problem solve and think at a higher level. I also love science, but until I took AP Physics my science classes were too easy. The labs in freshmen and sophomore science were enjoyable, but I never got a sense of how they connected to other concepts in Biology and Chemistry. …show more content…
First, I would benefit from exploring and experimenting in greater depth than I have the opportunity to in high school. Second, I would like to learn how to use some of the lab equipment and technology not available at my high school. Third, I would benefit from working with Fermilab scientists who will explain the big picture impact of our lab work.
For now, I plan to study engineering at a four year college, which is why I signed up to take AP Chemistry along with AP Physics C my senior year. As I gain more experiential learning through the internship, I will have a better idea of what I would like to study for my major in college and pursue as a career.
The summer internship at Fermilab will give me a real feel of how science, technology, engineering and math function together in the workplace. I look forward to gaining broad exposure and hands-on experience through the TARGET program at Fermilab. As Brian Greene said, “Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner that's precise, predictive and reliable - a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it, that is empowering and emotional.” I have felt the power of this process. By interning at Fermilab I can experience even more

I can still vividly recall the eleven-year-old me fawning over the likes of Lawrence Krauss and Neil Degrasse Tyson. I was completely immersed in everything and anything pertaining to the vast universe beyond our seemingly insignificant world. I thought I had it all figured out. I would devote my life to being an astrophysicist and eventually earn my PhD. I would relish in the pink lettering on my wall that said “Dr. Mia”, but as I approach my late teens, my mind has been bombarded with what-ifs and buts. Irrespective of my change of heart, I still have an intense passion for math and science since it is how we explain the world around us, and that is why I have settled on biomedical engineering.…

In my time in college, I hope to strengthen some of my skills such as independence, perseverance, and determination in order to prepare for a harder education after college. After I graduate college, I plan on taking the Medical College Admission Test in order to attend medical school and become a pediatrician. Being a physician has always interested me, but I did not actually plan on following through with this career until my high school years. I learned it is a very well-paid career and that being a physician for children will make the career more enjoyable.…

Physics is like a huge application problem class.…

I started advanced English and math in fourth grade, and still take advanced classes today. My two favorite subjects are math and science. I love how broad science is and how somehow, everything connects to form the world we live in. My favorite aspect of math is how definite it is. I am able to find ways to solve problems, and apply that method to different types of problems. The combination of science and math interests me, because it mixes a very concrete thing and an always-changing field of study. My two favorite subjects led me to a STEM degree, and I know I want math and science involved with my career.…

I am interested in the Science program (much like my sister) and there is so much I am looking forward to. I am keen on getting the exposure offered by the university especially since it is in another country and the education system is so very different, and also as I would be meeting many new people from different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. I am also inclined towards this activity as I would be given a whole new set of responsibilities, the biggest being of handling myself in a completely new “habitat”! And therefore I hope to emerge and as an independent, tolerant and changed individual. I believe this program will give me a whole new perspective on science as well as the outlook on life. The sciences taught and the methods of teaching are extremely different yet awfully interesting (as I have gathered from students who have previously been on this trip) and the trips to various labs , listening to lectures by famous professors and the video conference with somebody at NASA is said to be very enjoyable. The thought of seeing science from a whole new perspective excites me; it brings a chill down my spine. And where a changed outlook on life is concerned, I believe getting a view on this wonderful game known as life will be exceptionally beneficial to me just…

When I discovered physics in high school, I realized how exciting it was to focus on a subject I liked. The deeper I studied physics, the more passionate I became. My growing interest helped me make my decision to study abroad in the United States. I know that the U.S. has the most advanced engineering technology in the world, so I am excited by the possibility of continuing my education there. My parents support the idea wholeheartedly. In all the generations of my family, I will be the first to attend college—they would be proud if I pursued my studies in the United States.…
