AP Class Reflection Essay
How did I get here? As every student begins the process of selecting the upcoming year’s classes, numerous choices await them. Is it going to be the regular track for them? What about honors, or pre-AP? Or will they decide to go all the way, for full on Advanced Placement? These decisions are important ones and have the potential to either open or shut doors for my future. However, after plenty of internal pros-and-cons lists and a fair amount of coin flips, I reached a decision. Despite the ever-looming AP exam and daunting workload, I have committed to this class because I am determined to challenge myself and grow as a writer. Flipping through the course description guide, the sheer number of courses offered at College Station High School astounded me, and I decided I should select a demanding course that I would not end up loathing. In a subject such as English, uninspired and bored work will lead not only to less than appealing grades, but also a rather miserable existence for the duration of the class. Nevertheless, I always found great pleasure in reading, and this …show more content…
In an attempt to plan for the future, I have spent my previous years of high school loading my schedule with as many advanced classes as possible. So, heading into my junior year, I decided to continue on that track and opted for an AP English class. Not to mention, the obvious end game in any AP course is the college credit. Supposing I manage to pass the exam in May, it has the potential to save me future stress and money. Although it is sure to cause a little stress along the way, the exam and all preparations leading up to it are sure to grow my writing and analysis

During my high school career I have endured many sleepless nights due to my insistence that I read all the books assigned to me. For my freshman and sophomore year this was no big deal. However, after junior year with McGee I have come to realize that trying to read all the texts assigned would be my demise. As much as it pained me, I had to, instead of reading then entire text, read a simple summary. This year I have managed to get by with this same method. Throughout my semester in AP Literature in Room 303 with Timothy McGee, I have enjoyed certain texts more than others, however, the level of importance of these texts is determined not by whether or not I liked the, but rather instead what they taught me and how important they might be on the AP exam. There have been a large number of books and stories that we have covered during our time, but the three that I believe are the most…

Though I am not the Valedictorian of my class, and do not wish to be, I am a fierce worker and take AP classes for the ideas brought forth that help me look at the world through many different perspectives. My English class and open-minded teacher cultivates my thirst for words, both expanding my intake and inspiring the fruits of my writing career, which began when I had many less years than fingers on both hands. AP History has also impacted how I deal with the world, spurring my hunger for equality and encouraging me to dive into the unique stories of the millions of fellow human beings who have lived and died throughout the centuries. Though not a core class, many of my most impactful experiences happened due to my involvement in Marching Band. This family of people from countless backgrounds has taught me the importance of working with others and has given me a strong work ethic and a pride in what I do.…

Starting my senior year I wanted to prepare myself for college. I wanted to get a feel for what college would be like so I decided to take the English Composition 100 through the University of Maine at Fort Kent. I had never taken an online class before, I had no idea what to expect. My friends who are in college right now say that English Composition is one of the hardest classes their freshman year. Hearing that made me nervous, but I love a challenge.…

Many people, when tasked with an essay, will groan and procrastinate. However, in my case, I rather have that assignment over anything else. I love to explain things, why I know them to be true, and how they work. Additionally, I enjoy journaling about my day to day experiences, fleshing out how I could better myself and handle problems differently. I see writing as a creative outlet — not a task to be checked off. Although I loved a good book when I was little, my recent love for literature springs from my experiences this past school year in AP Language and Composition. I took this class a year early in order to participate in AP Capstone. I enjoyed getting to explore and discover the true meaning behind the words they wrote.…

This will be the second time I make one of these essays and as a person who has experienced an AP course I am thrilled to express what I have accomplished and the objectives I want to attain for my future in AP. Before entering my first AP Class there was only a feeling of fright and a part of me was ready to bail so I could run back to the normal classes. However, now that I look back I am glad that I did not run away. Due to the Pre-AP and AP course that is offered by the school I was capable of achieving more than I could have ever imagined. For example, the vocabulary I utilize is way more extensive and my knowledge in English and Spanish grammar has increased for the better. Not only that, but values like responsibility and assertiveness have played an important role in AP course because of the high intellectuality and sophistication in them. My experience in AP this year has aided me to grow intellectually and…

I hoped to gain a better knowledge of my least favorite subject to better prepare me for college and was not disappointed. It was the hardest class I’ve ever taken. I stayed awake late week nights to study. I was making Cs on tests for the first time, and I became discouraged at times. When I realized that I would not ‘get by’’ without a better study method, I forced myself to develop a more vigorous work ethic. It was miserable yet wonderful because in the long run I learned just how much I could achieve through determination.…

I never thought I’d be able to experience a college level course in high school and pass it with an above average grade, more than a “C”. It wasn’t easy though, the journey I’ve made from semester to semester has been a slow one and required more than half my effort and time. I’ve definitely grown not only as a writer but as a student overall through completion of several term papers and activities. As I reflect on this school year, I am thankful for enrolling and for the experience SUPA History has given me. The materials and objectives of SUPA History has given me the confidence to feel capable of meeting college standards upon my arrival to a university.…

Along with procrastination, the lack of sufficient preparation for the test led to my downfall. While working on an assigned practice AP multiple choice and free-response test during the holidays, I plan on reviewing sample multiple choice and essays from last year in addition to the ones from previous AP tests found on the College Board website. Confident that the world won’t end, I will instead continue devoting my attention towards my objective of receiving a 4 or 5 on the exam.…
