ADVISORY COMMITTEE CONSTITUTION FOR GROOM ISD
Article I – Name and Purpose
This committee shall be known as the Groom ISD Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee. The advisory committee shall provide leadership in and promote the development of the CTE program as it relates to and meets the needs of the students, the community, and the public. The Committee shall advise the teachers in the program and the administration on matters related to the program area.
Article II – Membership
1. Number of Members
The Advisory Committee membership shall include leaders from industry, business, the general public, Career and Technical Education staff, parents, and students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs. Members need

Qualifications
The membership committee shall include individuals who possess knowledge and work experiences which are aligned with the CTE program areas and are representative of the community.

4. Characteristics
Candidates for membership shall be civic-minded, cooperative, responsible and productive people who possess integrity. They should express interest, willingness, commitment and time availability to effectively serve the advisory committee

5. Selection
The members shall be nominated by education, business, industry, labor leaders, and the general public. Final appointment will rest with GISD.

6. Length of Term and Member Replacement
The replacement members shall be on a regular and staggered basis according to length of appointment established. Advisory committee members shall serve a two year term; alternate terms of one, two, and three years may be considered. Contributing members can be asked to renew for subsequent two year terms.

BYLAWS
Section A: Committee Leadership
a. The primary function of the Chair shall be to provide leadership at all meetings. Candidates for this position shall demonstrate public speaking and human relations skills, as well as an ability to organize and conduct orderly and productive meetings. The GISD Career and Technical Education Teachers shall serve as an ex officio member of the committee to provide logistical support and represent the position of Groom High school. The ex officio member shall inform and orient committee members of functions, objectives and philosophies of Career and Technical Education. The director shall be a non-voting member.

B: Meetings
At least two regular meetings of the Committee shall be held during the school year. Written or electronic notice of each regular meeting will be sent to members. Special meetings of the committee may be called by the chairperson as needed throughout the year. The time of advance notice shall be appropriate in terms of the reason for the urgency of the meeting.

Section C: Recommendations and Reports
Any formal resolutions or recommendations from the committee shall be in written form. They shall include the number of committee members present and the voting, and the number favoring the resolution or recommendation. To the extent feasible, all resolutions and recommendations shall be presented to the program coordinator or division chairperson at least seven days in advance, who shall then present them to the administration, who shall present them to the governing board if necessary.
