The Liberty Bell is a historical monument known for the crack that silenced it forever. The crack on the bell is 24.5 inches long and 0.5 inches wide. The Liberty Bell has an inscription on the top that goes all the way around the bell, which reads, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants thereof." The first Liberty Bell was cast by the Whitechapel Foundry. The bell arrived in Philadelphia on September 1, 1752, but wasn’t hung until March 10, 1753. On the first ring, the first Liberty Bell cracked, causing it to be recast. The second bell was cast April of 1753 and was hung March 29, 1753. Multiple problems occurred with the second bell causing it to be recast once again with different amounts of materials. Even with the different amounts of materials, problems kept occurring, up until the fifth bell. This Liberty Bell lasted through the British invasion in September 1777, it was taken from its home and hidden in the basement of a church until the British left. The fifth bell lasted roughly 90 years before history caught up with it, and it cracked. The liberty bell had some repairs done, including the crack being widened. Surprisingly, the widened crack did restore the charm of the Liberty Bell, until another crack appeared in the back silencing it forever.
