A Thematic Analysis Of Suggest Arnold
The final quote, “I ain’t made plans for coming in that house where I don’t belong” (Oates 318). Suggests Arnold knows he is an outsider, and does not quite blend in like a human. He is a narcissist and believes Connie supposed to cater to his needs. He thinks his presence is too good and the house does not deserve it, hinting why bother to think about stepping in that house where I do not belong. While asking himself, why do I have to in and get you? When there is no need for him to lift a finger because it is Connie, who has to come out to him. “but just for you to come out to me, the way you should” (Oates 318). It indicates, the minute Connie was born her destiny was sealed, she now belonged to Arnold. She might not know it now, but in …show more content…
Her existence will revolve around Arnold Friend and she will do as he says or demands, and in return he will offer her the happy world her sweet little heart desired.
The value of this story is, not everything seems as it appears. The theme is still relevant. Evil does not sleep, it is always seeking for its next victim. It comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, and forms. Children and young adults are the most vulnerable and can fall easy preys to these predators. For example, the Ariel Castro Kidnappings. The three young girls who disappeared were Michelle Knight was 21 years of age, Amanda Berry 17 years old and Gina de Jesus only 14 years old. The first victim to be kidnapped by Ariel Castro was Michelle Knight. She went missing on August of 2002. It was believed she had voluntarily runaway due to the loss of a child custody case and being that she was an adult, adults do have the right to go missing if they want to. Sadly fifteen months after her disappearance, her name was taken off the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and the authorities stopped looking for her. The second victim was Amanda Berry, she disappeared in April of 2003, one day before her seventeenth birthday. Amanda was last seen leaving her …show more content…
Predators will know where to go just like Arnold Friend did. Teenagers have the misconception that nothing will ever happen to them, they believe it only happens to others. Consequently, this will happen to many people, whether it is because they are inexperienced, naïve, or because they choose to make the wrong decisions or choices. The lesson to learn is that you got to be careful for what you wish
