A Long Way Gone Home Analysis
The author of this text wants the reader to see how the family felt after being robbed. They were in complete shock. The family’s house got robbed of all of their valuables. Now their trying to find a new place to live. The writing strategy I used was tone. The author uses tone to show how she felt towards the family when they got home and realized they were robbed. The author of this book used tone in this text to emphasize how the family was in complete shock when they came home and saw that they were robbed. One example demonstrates the family wasn’t stressed or wasn’t worried because the robbers forgot some valuable stuff “The foolish thieves had overlooked some good stuff, such as a pair of Grandma Smith’s riding breeches from the thirties …show more content…
Tone was used to explain the reaction that the family had to this incident. The family is gonna try to move out and find a different place to live where they will be safe and not have to worry about getting robbed again. Another example shows that the family’s life is going downhill slowly. Their Oldsmobile ended up breaking down and when their house was broken into and robbed. The family is trying to replace the Oldsmobile “Dad was still looking for a car to replace the Oldsmobile-our budget was in the high two figures”(Walls 150). Since they have no transportation, they had to walk and find a new car and a new house to live in. The author uses tone here to show how the family felt after they found out they need a new car. The family has a good amount of money saved up to be able to buy a new car and a new house. Finding a new house is their main priority at this point. Farther into the text the family comes across a new house at the end of a dead end street “We followed the road almost to the end, where Dad pointed up at our new house”(Walls 150) . They welcome themselves into the house on Little Hobart Street “ Well, kids, welcome to Ninety-three Little

Tone is the author's attitude toward the subject s/he is writing about. Hughes uses tone when he wrote this poem to help us understand it’s feeling through words and emotion. In this quote the mother also tells her son “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, and splinters, and boards torn up, and places with no carpet on the floor, bare” (2-7). The tone in this quote shows how the mother’s life has many rough spots. Hughes wrote this poem to try and show us life is not easy in anyway. The tone used for this poem is hardship and will power. Hughes used this tone because he wanted us to see how hard the mother's life is, but also that she keeps going and never gives up. The tone connects to the theme of this poem, because the tone shows how the mother keeps going no matter what life throws at her in the end.…

The square in China was a act of rebellion because the citizens stood up against Cherman Mao. Tone has to do with auditory (what you hear). Tone in writing represents things you hear from the author’s writing. In Fahrenheit Four Hundred Fifty One Bradbury uses tone to show rebellion. Rebellion can be described as defiance of anything authority, control, or tradition. In this case Montag plans to rebel against control. Bradbury uses tone to characterize Faber and Montag’s rebellion as futile because Faber does not want to help Montag with his plan.…

The writer tone is depressing, negative and an almost malicious undertone. The writer starts the essay off making the reader feel like she is upset with her father is living due to being forced to care for her aging parents. She continues thought the essay to write in a somber view of caring for her aging parents. A good example is when she sates that she is like a Kafka character who kills himself even though he has much to live for. Another statement the writer used to build tone in the essay was one that could be deemed as morbid: I almost don’t know what I envy Bernard Cooper for more—his incomparable literary genius or the fact that his father is dead. Wishing one’s parent was dead goes against all social norms, this leads to the tone of the essay being grim, dark and depressing. The use of negativity and resentment ensure the readers would be aware of the writers tone. The writer continues to develop this tone by inserting statements that seems against social norms, for example: With a sudden angry snort, my father woke up. I won’t say I wish I had hit him over the head with a frying pan to finish the job when it seemed we were so, so close. This showed in a passive aggressive way that she seems to want her father to die. Another example of the writer using a negative tone is when she is discussing Thomas, her Dad’s care giver who stated that he could help her dad live longer and she wrote ”Oh my God—how could he say…

The tone, along with the foreshadowing used in the beginning of the story, create a mood of anticipation and uncertainty. The purpose of all this is to create suspense and to make the story move along faster. For instance, halfway through the story the reader gets a clear feeling that something bad is going to happen, which helps to build up their expectations and alerts them that the story will take an unexpected turn soon. The line, “It became clear at once that help was needed, because the husband was not pleased” is an example of the foreshadowing in the story, because it is at this moment that the reader realizes that the wife’s good intentions did not have a positive effect on her…

From the short story, “The Pearl,” chaos occurs due to a small argument. “Soon she has completely forgotten the small commotion on her birthday…”(Mishima 144). This was an example of tone because it was very surprising and unilikey for the adult women to fight over a pearl. Japanese women are known to be polite and conservative, so their compulsive outbreak was a change of atmosphere and tone in the story. Furthermore, the women in the poem set the story in a calm tone. The women are pleased to cook and do it without objection. “What measure of love and sincerity they must have poured into these utensils…”(Rin 164). Their attitude towards cooking for their family proves that they do not have a problem with preparing food for her family. Another example of tone would be that the women are lacking and falling behind in their education, but are still able to learn through cooking. “...let us also study government, economy, literature as sincerely as we cook potatoes and meat…”(Rin 164). This is an example of tone because it describes the uplifting mood that the women have. The women are sacrificing education and opportunities, but they are not aware because they are…
