Iconic African species are declining at a startling speed because of unsustainable hunting. Consider the African lion for example. Their numbers have reduced from approximately 450,000 in the 1940s to 200,000. Furthermore Oxford University research shows that by 2035, the number of lions will likely be decreased by a further 50%. Trophy hunters contribute to this decline by killing around 105,000 animals every year. the original intention of trophy hunters was to control healthy populations of individual species. Numbers were managed under the guise of culling. However, the trophy hunters never stopped hunting even when healthy numbers were achieved, and the trophy hunting has become a status symbol for the wealthy, especially in Asia.…

Rounded, protruding ears, tufted tail, and perhaps faint, tiger-like stripes are the common thing between all of the lion caves. Mountain lion was living in Europe until the last European Ice Age. Cave lion lived in the same time pried that man was living in the cave because there is a panting of them all over the caves. The paintings in Paleolithic Europe shows some species that only people who saw them and lived around them can paint them…

In five months alone, over 3,000 sea lion pups, at a point teetering towards death, washed ashore on Southern Californian beaches, fifteen times more than in past years, due to toxic algal blooms. Merriam Webster calls algal blooms, “rapid and excessive growths of a plankton population.” Since 1998, scientists have been aware of sea lions and their pups being intoxicated by domoic acids from toxic algal blooms. Agricultural and suburban areas are the main culprits as excess fertilizer and pesticides from fields and lawns are washed away in urban runoff and travel to our oceans by stormdrain. The nutrients in fertilizers and pesticides are overfeeding the algae, producing toxic algal blooms that expel poisonous…

Keeping the population balanced by hunting really only counts for some animals such as deer. If we didn't hunt deer there would be too many and eventually they would starve to death. However, lion hunting is entirely different. There are only about 30,000 lions left which is means they are endangered. If a hunter kills a male lion that is a leader of the pack, the rest of the lions are open for the kill of other animals which leads to more deaths of lions, which brings the number of their population down and can eventually lead to extinction.…
