Mrs. Mary Malony was waiting for her husband to coma back home from work, while she was waiting she entertained herself with sewing. Mrs. Malony loved to wait for her husband, merely the thought that each minute gone by made it nearer the time her husband would come home would make her pleased with herself. Every day at 4.50 her beloved husband Mr. Patrick Malony arrives at their home. Mrs. Mary Malony has it as a tradition to make him a strong drink and a weak one for herself. She will take her drink back to her chair and resume with her sewing, Mr. Malony would sit in the opposite side while enjoying his drink. This was always a blissful time of day for Mrs. Malony, she enjoys sitting peacefully and loved his company
Malony was six months pregnant and she did not want to put her unborn child in danger, that is the reason she decided to cover up the crime. The first thing she did was to put the murder weapon, the leg of lamb in the oven to cook. She started to practice on how to appear as normal in front of Sam, the local grocer, in front the mirror. She went to the grocery shop to chat with Sam, pretending that she is gathering food for supper, she spoke about the dead Mr. Malony as if he is still alive. When she got back home, she acted as normal, calling for her husband and become horrified when she “found” her husband’s dead body. She called the police telling them she thinks her husband is dead. When the police arrived, Mrs. Malony told them about how after she had come back from the grocery she had found her husband dead. The police treated Mrs. Malony kindly and after confirming her story with grocer and after hours of searching, the policemen have had no success in finding the murder weapon. After observing the policemen being tired, frustrated, and hungry Mrs. Malony asked the policemen if they wanted a drink and they accept her offering, one of the policemen notice the lamb still in the oven. Mrs. Malony asked the policemen of a favor, that they eat the leg of lamb as reward for helping in catching the killer. The policemen agreed, after some hesitation, to et the leg of lamb in the kitchen. While eating the lamb, the policemen started to discuss the murder weapon, one of the policemen stated, “the murder weapon is probably right under our very noses”.
