A Career In Cosmetology
What will I be when I grow up? Cosmetology is a career I am really interested in attending. I have always loved doing hair, makeup, etc. This career requires a good education, and has many beneficial aspects, but there are some potential drawbacks/costs of this career. The school i'm planning on attending is Trendsetters, school of cosmetology (835 S. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau, Mo 63703. 573-335-9977). The kind of education I need to go to cosmetology school is I have to have a High School diploma or a General Education Development (GED). It takes between 1,400 and 1,600 hours to complete a basic cosmetology program and qualify to the state licensing exam, notes the American Association of Cosmetology Schools. And for 1,400 to 1,600 hours it would cost about $14,850. There …show more content…
One of the best parts is you get the satisfaction of helping others feel better about themselves. Another is its fun to do hair and you will never get bored! And you can look your best without having to go to a salon because you already know how to do everything. And I just enjoy working with hair and makeup. There are some pro’s but there are also cons about being a cosmetologist.
The potential drawbacks/costs of being a cosmetologist is school costs about $14,850.00 for 1,500 hours of school and I would have to pay for school by myself, so I would have to get a job and save up. Something else that is not so great about working as a beautician is you are on your feet all day. Which can cause back and neck problems, which can make you spend less time at work and more time at the doctors office or at the chiropractor.
Cosmetology requires a good education, and has many beneficial aspects, but there are some potential drawbacks/costs of this career. I have to go through a bunch of schooling if I want to be a cosmetologist, the experience will be great for me, and the bad thing is the cost. And that is all part of being a

The ancient Greeks made lavish use of perfumes and cosmetics in their religious rites, in grooming, and for medicinal purposes. They built elaborate baths and developed excellent methods of dressing the hair and caring for the skin and nails. Greek women applied preparations of white lead on their faces, kohl on their eyes, and vermilion on their cheeks and lips. The brilliant red pigment was made by grinding cinnabar, a mineral that is the chief source of mercury, to a fine powder. It was mixed with ointment or dusted on the skin in the same way as modern cosmetics are applied…

After reading Peter Cappelli article “Why focusing too Narrowly in College Could Backfire” I started to think about my own educational goals and why I chose to be a hairstylist. When I graduated from high school I attend beauty college, at that time the beauty industry was booming. There was a salon on every corner. There was always walk- ins and new clients available for stylist. Now with the social media craze like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, the African American salon business has fallen because social media outlets. These outlets, teach ordinary people how to do their own hair, and caused stylist to lose clients. We also have the natural hair movement, that took clients that would normally come into the salon for hair weaves and relaxers, and are now wearing their hair in its natural state and don’t need the salon anymore. Another major down fall to African American salon industry was manufacturing companies like L’Oréal and Shea moisture that promotes salon quality products on YouTube for the naturalista. These were a few major changes that happen in…

Hello my name is Chassidy Mitchem I would absolutely love to be a part of your cosmetology program. I love to do hair and, make up. Doing hair is something I enjoy doing in my free time. It’s a way to get away from people and let my mind explore into better things. I enjoy looking and trying new hair styles and colors. I have done makeup and hair for Homecoming court and Grand March. It would be an absolute dream to get into this school and have some hands on time with the things I love doing while learning more about Cosmetology. Cosmetology is very important to the world because someone will always want their hair done or make up done. Most people only want to go to a professional so they know they will be getting the best of their money. You could also be able to set up your own business around your area. I differ from a lot of my peers because no one really understands the importance of Cosmetology the way I do. Everyone thinks it useless. Cosmetology is just as important as other jobs because someone will always need you. There will always be someone needing their eye brows done or maybe there nails especially during homecoming and prom or even a wedding. I’ve talked to a couple people and got some really interesting opinions. Some people has told me I wouldn’t make it and some people has told me I would, but my motto is “Never give up, because you never know how close you are to fulfilling your dream.” I plan on getting this degree and opening my own salon and I feel that it will give me knowledge I need to know for success. I learned to do this at a young age and I feel very strong about this career. I believe this will be the field I dedicate myself to. I hope to be attending this college at whatever time the school year would…
