97 Shooting Case Study
In the month of march 2015, there was 97 shooting during that month. All of which was between a policeman and a civilian. One of the biggest case was in Nov 2014, MIchael Brown and a friend rob a liquor store, then officer Darren wilson pulls up and notices thats them who robbed it. He tells them to go to the side walk. After that Michael tries and run away, but Darren Wilson shoots him. I think that lethal force should be used if they are uncertain, or the person has a gun and is about to shoot them. Like the incident in Cleveland, Ohio. Tamir Rice was playing with his pellet gun and the cops thought it was a real gun so they took action. They ended up killing Tamir Rice, but i think it was the right call because what if it were a real gun,

In the case of scenario two, the shooting incident was taken place in a crowd of people when an individual was delivering speech on a slightly raised podium at a range of 25m. A low popping sound was heard by most people in the crowd but the shooter or the gun was not seen by anyone. As a result of the shooting, the victim had a small entry wound in the lower abdomen without any exit wound. In my opinion, the most suitable weapon I have chosen is Glock 19 4th Generation 9mm Pistol with an ammunition of Federal Classic Hi-Shock jacketed hollow point 9mm 115 grain ammunition, also used with a sound suppressor.…

In the “Radley Balko on the 3 Worst Cases of Police Abuse in 2011” video there were three cases of communication and unethical decisions made by police officers. All three cases were different, but two suspects in the video were shot fatally by police. The first video that was shown was a Utah SWAT team. The officers were seeking the roommate who was pulled over by the police earlier in the day. The officers received a tip that there was an extreme large amount of drugs in the home, so a raid was commenced. When the police entered the home, the roommate came out of the back of the home, who thought the home was being burglarized and charged the…

There are many people that oppose my opinion. Many people believe that officers do not use excessive force, that what happens is not police brutality and that these officers are only doing their job. There is no doubt that some are doing exactly that, their job, but when there is an officer that is shooting at a young man several times is unnecessary. This happened to Michael Brown, according to Darren Wilson, the officer that shot him, he fit the description a suspect who had stolen cigarettes. The officer pulled over Michael Brown and his friend. Michael Brown got away and the officer chased after him and many witnesses said that Brown was surrendering to the officer, while others said that Brown was charging toward the officer, either way,…

With recent events such as the shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, there has been an increased focus on the role of EMS providers in an active shooter situation. Should EMS wait until the scene is deemed "safe" by law enforcement, or should providers be expected to enter a potentially dangerous scene where the shooter may still be active? It is an issue that has been debated on public forums all over the internet, with plenty of people of both sides of the argument. And while both sides of the argument have merits, I believe there is a solution that may allow victims of a shooting to receive quick and effective medical care without compromising the safety of those who provide it.…

On the 24th of November 2015, unarmed 24 year old Jamar Clark was fatally shot in the head by a police officer after an alleged altercation between Clark and two police officers in the North Side of Minneapolis, a predominately black neighborhood. Soon after, protests spearheaded by the Black Lives Matter movement started at the 4th precinct of Minneapolis-- the police station just blocks away from where Jamar Clark was shot. Days of occupation of the precinct and peaceful protest led to increased presence of police in riot gear , openly brandishing tear gas guns. Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, police officers in tactical gear sprayed chemical irritants into the eyes of protesters, used intimidation as a form of crowd control, and even punched a young woman in the face. While it remains uncertain as of now if the shooting of Jamar Clark was a justified use of self defense, the outrage seen over police officers using excessive force against unarmed black men, in the North Side of Minneapolis in particular, is reminiscent of the upsets manifested in the Watts Riots, LA Riots, and the protest and rioting in…

According to Bleetman, Steyn, & Lee (2004), police are morally and legally obligated to use the lowest amount of force to affect an arrest (p. 136). In fact, Delano Police Department Policy 300.02, entitled Use of Force, states that officers shall only use that force which is reasonably necessary to effect an arrest (p. 42). According to the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ), a less-lethal weapon is a weapon, other than a firearm, that when deployed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations by a trained officer, is less-likely to cause death or serious bodily harm (USDOJ, 2009, p. 1). Bleetman, Steyn, & Lee (2004) noted that the ideal less-lethal weapon is one that will subdue a suspect in order to make a safe arrest without causing injury to the officer, suspects, or those in the area of the arrest (p.…

Channel 2 Action News has stated that no fatal police shooting has made it to court from 2010, two-thirds of police cases never went to a grand jury, and of those 49 cases that made it to the grand jury, only 9 involved an indictment because the grand jury was only asked to determine if the shooting was justified or unjustified (Schrade and Peebles). A shooting involved case that received national recognition (not military related) was the death of Kathryn Johnston, a 92-year-old woman who was tragically killed by two Atlanta police officers during a botched drug raid in 2006. The officers were told by an undercover informant that he bought drugs from a dealer there named "Sam;" however, the man who claimed to be the informant said he never bought drugs at Johnston's house. The two police officers involved in the shooting pleaded guilty to manslaughter and several other charges, and a third officer was also indicted in the murder case. Authority abuses their powers upheld by the government, and in more recent cases, get prosecuted for their actions due to technology such as camera footage and social media. With the use of social media, it appears that initial force is used often, increasing the belief that officers use their power inappropriately. Too many shooting involved deaths have occurred in such a short amount of time of apprehending the suspects, leading to the thought that a thorough investigation is not conducted before using lethal…
