9/11 Formal Writing
September the 11th 2001. Four airliners, hijacked to implement acts of terrorism against targets in the United States of America. The product of this: 2900 fatalities and a limitless figure on those traumatized. Over a decade later the wounds inflicted by 9/11 remain raw. It is perhaps one of the most controversial, revolutionary and conspiracy ridden events in human history.
AL Qaeda is defined as a broad-based militant Islamist organization, and is considered to be- by the majority of society- the primary culprit of the 9/11 terror attacks. By inspecting Al Qaedas’ philosophy at its roots, its writings, and development, we can conclude that their approach can only be pronounced as destructive, not constructive. Al Qaeda interprets the Quran falsely, basing their ideology on principals such as the war they feel all Muslims must wage with ‘others’, regardless of whether the ‘others’ are fighters or peaceful civilians. Verse 16:82 of the Quran conveys the concept of tolerance and peace, stating: “But if they turn away from you, your only duty is a clear delivery of the Message”. This portrays the way in which Al Qaeda manipulates the Quran to justify their actions of terror- regarding their ‘duty’ as an act of violence rather than peace.
Societies globally do not recognise the multitude of consequences of 9/11. Those whom were also affected in a different manner by the occurrence of 9/11 are cast astray, in the midst of the immediate consequences of 9/11. Society falters in blatant disregard towards the fact that 9/11 has tarnished the Arab image, as opposed to generating Arab moral. 9/11 cemented the already negative perceptions of Arabs in society. ‘Jihadist’, ‘terrorist’ and ‘suicidal maniacs’ - all stereotypical representations of Arabs, which are frequently manifested in western society. But is this really fair? Considering that only 19 men of Arab ethnicity were involved in the hijacking of the targeted planes.
