Have you ever wondered why teachers take a whole month to review everything from the previous year or why students tend to forget everything? Every year, students are keeping their calendars at hand and counting down the days until summer vacation. It’s the last day of school and when the final bell rings, kids are ready to do nothing for three months. However, is this really a good thing? The possibility of having year-round schools is at hot debate topic right now and it is time for change from traditional calendar schools. Schools should incorporate a system where schooling is year-round instead of having a long summer break because this allows for more learning and would prevent the problem of students forgetting everything they’ve learned the previous year.…
Another reason is finances. Some high schools are private and require a lot of money to have a person attend. The school will most likely raise the price if an extra year is added. The parents of the student might not be able to pay for an additional extra year of school.…
Moving on, there has been a current trend of graduating in 5 years then in 4 year. Many students take that root to delay their entrance to the real world. As well as having an easier time in school. Unfortunately it’s financially a bad idea because it’s adding another year of expenses. “The longer you extend campus life, the more debt you rack up. It’s not just the cost of tuition, there’s rent, food, books and etc.” The “take 5” campaign persuades students to take five courses each semester to graduate on…
The possibility of year round schools has been a hot debate topic for quite some time. The question is, is the idea of year round schools acceptable considering all the potential drawbacks? Year round schooling can be disruptive to both the family of the students and the teachers themselves, it can be too costly for a large group of people, and year round schools do not provide the same opportunity for learning as the traditional school year does. For several reasons, the traditional school year, which runs for ten months instead of eleven, is more beneficial in comparison to year round schooling.…
I don’t think high school should be extended to five years. Many students can barely make it past the first couple years. If high school is extended, then there will be an increase in the number of student dropouts. There will be a decrease in the number of high school graduates.…
Some schools offer programs that allow students to graduate in three years instead of four. Most people who follow this program must take classes in the summer or may not be able to take elective courses. I do not think that this is a good idea because without electives, students will not have a way to take classes that they may enjoy. Also, requiring students to take summer courses is not a good idea because most students have plans during the summer. I do not believe that students should be able to graduate early because it stops students from taking enjoyable classes, students have plans over the summer, and would quickly overload students with work.…
This longer school year will enhance the learning experience and make it more exciting for both students and teachers (Davis). New technology nowadays is enabling teachers to find extra materials and research on the internet. Back in the 1900’s, teachers spent their summers planning the entire year curriculum, but now with computers and the ability to share assignments online, lesson plans can be made easily and quite quickly (Huang). Schools will also be able to go more in depth providing students with a better idea of their interests. A longer school year will increase learning and teach every child so much more than what they currently learn.…
After completing elementary school, the student then continues on to middle school. This level has three grades; sixth grade (11-12 years old), seventh grade (12-13 years old), and eighth grade (13-14 years old). The fourth level of education is high school. This is divided into four grades: ninth grade/freshman (14-15 years old), tenth grade/sophomore (15-16 years old), eleventh grade/ junior (16-17 years old), and twelfth grade/ senior (17-18 years…
Graduating from high school early does have it's advantages and disadvantages! I have sat here and researched all sorts of stuff wondering how in the world is it possible to graduate early when everyone should be going through school together. I know when you get in College not everyone is on the same pace or schedule but growing up and completing preschool, middle school and high school was something you had to do unless you dropped out. As i researched more, it states "most colleges and universities have no rule requiring a diploma of any kind and will happily accept applications from kids as young as middle school".…
Senior year is the highlight of everyone’s high school career. People look forward to it as soon as they begin high school as a freshman. People get their last year to be close with their friends and enjoy the final year of their high school career. No one has the right to take away someone’s senior year for any reason. Politics argue that senior year is a blow off, seniors fear going to college, none of the classes matter, and none of this would effect junior year. There are no benefits from graduating high school after three years. Students should go to high school for four years because senior year can sometimes be the hardest, certain colleges still look at senior year transcripts, and junior year would simply just replace senior year and everybody would still do the same things a year earlier.…
First, taking a year off adversely affects students' passion and motivation for learning. Speaking from experience, the gap year I took was not a fully meaningful time. At that time, since I did not pass the college entrance exam, I decided to wait another year to prepare and apply again. It was not a pleasant experience because I was blaming myself and I felt like I had truly disappointed my family. In fact, during the gap year, I studied to get a higher score on the exam, but I lacked passion and motivation for learning because of the pressure and anxiety of failing again, and not being admitted into college.…
Attending high school for three years rather than four includes the possibility of having to take summer courses and maybe evening classes. Although the work may be difficult, graduating earlier opens up a new world for the student.…
Not every student graduating from high school wants to go to college. Some decide to directly enrol into college or university, while the others opt for a gap of a year prior to enrolling in higher education. The time period between high school graduation and arrival at college can be the result of several factors, including deferred admission at a student's college of choice or purposely taking a gap year to prepare for the next step of formal education. The argument arises when the students prefer taking gap to explore the world & to find some field they are interested in and when the parents worry about their children getting off track regarding higher education. Traditionally gap years are seen as time out to travel between school and university, to learn life experiences and broaden horizons.…
The K+12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. This means that all students are required to enroll in Kindergarten first, before advancing into Elementary. The current 4 years of Secondary level will be changed into 6 years, divided in Junior High School and Senior High School. The batch of first year high school students on SY 2012-2013 will be the first ones to experience the new high school curriculum. This means that by SY 2016-2017 they will undergo Senior High, instead of already finishing Secondary level. And by SY 2018-2019 students are required to have attended the full 12 years of basic Education for them to be accepted in the Tertiary level. In other words, it is a program to ensure mastery of skills and abilities after graduating in 12 years of education. K+12 has to different benefits to both individuals and to our society and economy.…
