My milk intake was .8 cups and the recommendation is 3 cups. My meat and bean intake was 1.9 ounces and the recommendation is 5.5 ounces. My vegetable intake was .7 cups and the recommendation is 2.5 cups. My fruit intake was 0 and the recommendation is 2 cups. My grains intake was 2.5 ounces and the recommendation is 6 ounces. On day two I had a major wrench thrown into the day and did not have much of an appetite. I see that I need to work on all levels of what I did not get my equivalents to.…

How does your diet compare to the recommendations you received from the Food Guide Pyramid? I just recently decided that I was going to start eating healthier. I am not on a diet! That is just too much stress. However, I have made quite a bit of progress with changing how I eat. The recommendation that I got were not that off of what I’m trying to accomplish. I need to eat more fruit and vegetables. I have been doing well with the grain and fiber intake. I need to do better with my sodium intake, which is still a little high, but is much lower than what I used to consume.…
My protein target was 46 grams, and the first and third day shows that I went over what I was supposed to eat, but the second day I was under the target amount. My lipid target was between 20%-35%, and again the first and third day indicates that I went over the target amount. The second day shows that I was in the range for the amount of lipids needed. Since my carbohydrates and proteins were outside of the range, I probably would have removed the five pieces of chicken strips, the five chocolate chip cookies, the four macaroon…
She is now getting 41.3 grams of fat in a day. The American Heart Association (2013) recommends that a person should not eat more that 25 to 35 % of fat in their diet a day and of this amount no more than 7 percent of it should be saturated fats. This writer can reduce she total daily intake of fats by consuming more food that are low in saturated fats. Also, she can cook her foods with oils like corn oil, canola oil, and olive oil. We needed some fats in our diet to help provide a source of energy. It is also, used by the body to absorb certain vitamins from food we eat. This writer should be getting 25 grams of fiber a day in her diet (K. Zelman, 2011). Right now she is only getting 12 grams which is only 48.2 % of the daily recommended amount. By not having the right amount of fiber in her diet can lead to constipation, higher LDL levels, and high blood sugar levels. In turn this can lead to colon cancer and diabetes. She can reduce her chances of these diseases by eating more dark green leafy vegetables, corn, nuts, whole wheat products, beans, and…
The results for my new diet when compared to the recommendations from the SuperTracker are very bad indeed. I am not eating enough grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy or protein foods. An average for the amount of grains I consumed was 6 and a half ounces which is 2 servings each of these days. I consumed one and a half cup of fruits and vegetables which is about 2 servings on Saturday. I did not eat any other fruit during this three day period. I also consumed a quarter cup of dairy. From the proteins foods group, I consumed 2 and a half ounces and from the oils groups which is not a serving at all, but when this measured is about 2 teaspoons.…
Nutrition has played a big part in my life even before taking Biology 115.. I enjoy reading Women’s Health magazines and watching television shows like The Doctor's and Doctor Oz because they are filled with nutrition tips, and scientific studies about fitness and health. I am a strong believer that your diet is the biggest component of your health. Biology 115 has been an extremely useful and knowledgeable course because I can apply much of the information learned to my own life. The Diet Analysis project was wonderful because it gave me a firsthand look at my own diet habits.…
At the beginning of this course I was not eating like I was supposed to. I had irregular eating habits that were some-what healthy. Eating three times a day is normal; however, I was lucky to eat one time a day. Skipping the most important meal of the day, which was breakfast, was not benefiting me in any way. I was not consuming enough fruits, vegetables, dairy, protein, and grains. Since the beginning of this course I have already initiated my four nutritional and physical exercise goals by cutting out my fried food intake, reducing my starch intake, decreasing my soda intake, and exercising more.…
I know that sounds bad, but I do not consider myself to have healthy eating habits. I thought I would have had a higher percentage. I was also surprised on my total amount of calories for each day. I thought each day's total would've been higher especially Friday since I had Starbucks and a large dinner. I would like to make some changes in my diet. I have already cut out pop and I have lost about 5 pounds in the last 6 weeks. I would like to cut my sugar category down a little bit and add that percentage into proteins.…
As a therapist it is important to have an understanding of the role diet and what lifestyle factors play in the maintenance of health so that you can advise clients accordingly. The Atkins’ diet helps in weight loss and increases health benefits. It is based on lowering of carbohydrate intake to increase metabolism and body efficiency. This diet usually causes the body to use adipose tissue, or fat, for energy instead of the alternative glucose. If the dieter follows through with the diet with daily exercise, the person should experience steady weight loss. Some low-fat diets have taken the stand against the low-carbohydrate claim. It expresses that followers of low- fat diet lose fat quicker than people who follow the Atkins’ diet (Oaklander). Although this can conflict with the low- carbohydrate diet, the Atkins’ diet works with the body for weight loss, lowers health issues in all aspects of the body, and decreases…
I analyzed my food intake over a 24- hour period, and although I was not surprised by what I observed, I noticed that I was not meeting the daily requirements for all of the food groups. One major area of concern was my fruit intake. Even though I do eat fruit sometimes, I don’t eat it regularly, and the day that I observed my intake was no exception. I don’t eat as often as I should due to my schedule, and in addition to that, fruit just doesn’t seem substantial enough to justify choosing that as the food of choice when I just want something to quickly snack on. I checked MyPlate, and it confirmed that I was taking in nowhere near the recommended 2 cups of fruit per day.…
I began this class with very little nutritional knowledge. During week one of this class, it became evident to me that my eating habits were completely unhealthy. Before taking this course, my interpretation of eating right consisted of eating foods that I thought were healthy, and basically sticking to that particular meal plan. I started this class coming off of a self-created protein diet plan of my own. My diet plan consisted solely upon eating cereal for breakfast, chicken breast, white rice, and egg whites for lunch, and drinking a protein shake for dinner, every week on days Monday through Friday. For the weekends, I would basically eat whatever I wanted. The weekends were considered my grace period where I was allowed to ignore my diet for two days. About a week or two before the course began, I had completely stopped my protein diet, and I was basically back to eating whatever I had a taste for at any given time of the day. I had lost all discipline and obedience to my “healthy” meal plan. The amount of meals I would have each day varied from one meal a day, to two or three meals a day. Rarely was it consistent. I would skip out on breakfast on many occasions. On some days, I would eat solely junk food all day long. Water was almost inexistent in my life.…
I think I did good eating, I dont see where I would try to make a better decision during that day besides maybe the smoothie from McDonalds but its a smoothie because they claim to use real fruit when they make…
