ABSTRACT
3G is the third generation of tele standards and technology for mobile networking, superseding 2.5G. The project based on 3G networks are wide-area cellular telephone networks that evolved to incorporate high-speed Internet access and video telephony the protocols and standards used in mobile networks like 3G and 4G. Using 3G, speeds up to 14.4 Mb/s on the downlink and 5.8 Mb/s on the uplink, can be achieved. Also 3G networks offer a greater degree of security than 2G predecessors. 4G (also known as Beyond 3G), an abbreviation for Fourth-Generation, is a term used to describe the next complete evolution in wireless communications. A 4G system will be able to provide a comprehensive IP solution where voice, data and streamed multimedia can be given to users on an "Anytime, Anywhere" basis, and at higher data rates than previous generations. It will be a total replacements of 3G networks. 4G networks exploit the available bandwidth to a greater extent, thus providing the speeds between 100 Mb/s and 1 Gb/s speeds both indoors and outdoors, with premium quality and high security. 3G and 4G networks are the present and future technology of wireless computing and data transmission, at speeds faster than that of the broadband. Hence they have very high significance. They also have much scope in the area of research, as 4G is still in its developing stage. We will be concentrating on the protocols and applications of 3G and 4G. We will deal with the history, development and various technologies related with this mode of wireless data transfer.
