During the research of children of homelessness I found that being a child is difficult; but, it is even more difficult when your family is poor, and unsecure. Imbalances within the family can be difficult even without outside influences making it even more difficult. We as teachers see more than parents think we do; wemay notice that a child shows up dirty to class, or seems distracted all the time. This is when we as teachers need to find out what exactly is going on with our students and their family. As a teacher we need to discuss how we will deal with children who are struggling, how we as teachers will connect with families and the different strategies that can be used to support students and families within their learning environment. As I researched the why homelessness occurs I also found that these children are a byproduct of the life they were dealt whether by being a single parent, a fatherless home, immigrants or homeless with nowhere else to go. Knowing what we can do as Early Educators to help homeless children and their families has become very important in schools. In these synopses you will find some information that will give you a better understanding of homeless children and what we can do as educators to help them overcome this obstacle in their life…

The best way to understand family dynamics is to explore the family tree as per Bowen Family Systems Theory. The attempt is to look for patterns of behavior, look for the cut offs, resulting in disconnection with the family. A member of the family breaking off and no longer having contact with other members of the family over disagreements find opportunities to break free of the family energy system and start a new for self and one's family. It disrupts the assigned roles for the family. Re-connecting with family members from whom they've cut off from opens up new insights. The Bowen model is a great tool for therapist to use in discovering symptoms in depth beyond what is seen on the surface. The theory focuses on the emotional processes as…

A genogram is a unique technique that therapist use to explore the family history. Sometimes families do not know where the dysfunction is in the family dynamics until a therapist explain to them using a genogram. When I meet a family, I inform them that I will be conducting a two-part assessment to get to know the family and explore the presenting problem. I let the family know that the second part of the assessment will be discussing the genogram. The thing is, most clients do not know what a genogram is so I will use the word family tree. Clients will at times ask me to explain the process of the genogram and how it relates to the treatment. I tell a lot of my clients that a genogram tells a family story from a three generation perspective.…

The genogram is a valuable assessment tool used by social workers, therapists, counselors, and practitioners, and it is typically used in psychology as a way to map out relationships within a family and learn how members interact with one another. Diagrammatically, the genogram is an intergenerational map of three or more generations of a family and a primary assessment tool that focuses on intergenerational patterns and relationships among family members (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2014). It illustrates family data, family history, and family systems and represents a large quantity of complex family information and issues.…

My mother is a doctor. Well, not an MD, but a PhD. But I still think her doctorate contributes to the health of society, and furthermore to the health of families that make up our society. I always hated doing my family tree. The reason for this, is because I really don’t know much about my grandparents. My grandparents passed away before I was born. The only thing I have of them are pictures. These pictures are not color. They are black and white. So, I am guessing these were taken sometime in the early 20’s or 30’s.…
