1. Gather site data
2. Determine the number of connections
3. Calculate necessary bandwidth
4. Establish datastore size
5. Determine if Steelhead Mobile and other form factors will be used 6. Identify branch consolidation and virtualization requirements 7. Identify other appliances that might be useful (CMC, SMC, Interceptor)

How many sites? Branches and data centers
Bandwidth at each Site?
Does the network use MPLS and/or direct internet connections? Number of users per Site?
Is there a mobile workforce?
What about future growth (Interceptor, CMC, SMC…)?

Are there server or data center consolidation requirements? Are there branch consolidation or virtualization requirements? Does the company use or plan to use SaaS applications?
