300-Long English Class Analysis
What I expected to learn in this class and what I got out of this class definitely exceeded my expectation since the first day. As a freshman, it was a challenge for me to take a 300-level class, and I did not think that it would turn out this great. In about four months, I have learned more than I did in a year-long English class that I have previously taken. Before taking this class, my writing style is more focused on giving context rather than getting to the point. For instance, the first sentence of the final draft of e-mail that I turned in for the Business Correspondence Unit says, “I would like to inform you that our team was assigned for planning and implementing the company’s social media campaign”. Since an e-mail must be short, …show more content…
Before taking this class, there was never an instance that I have to write a memo. The first time I had to submit a memo was for the first module, which is the Business Correspondence Unit, and I concentrated more on talking about the next steps rather than the purpose, which is to update my boss on what my team had found out regarding the role of social media in businesses and what is the next plan. Specifically, the Nike memo, where you can see under the “Project 1 link”, says, “The team is focusing on the vital start-up months to establish a platform for success through weekly meetings”, which is not specific enough to figure out what the team has accomplished. In addition, I always focus on explaining what is needed to be done rather than explaining how and why certain actions need to be done. On the Project 1 link, you can find the final draft of the cover letter that I submitted which was very wordy and it was more about what I want my audience to do, however, I did not specifically explain why these actions that I want them to take is very important and how it will specifically help the project development. This class did not only teach me how crucial peer editing is, but also reviewing my own work through reading my paper at least twice before submitting

SSG Miller gave a descriptive explanation of how to write a memorandum in 6th Platoon’s BLC classroom on 22 April 2016. SSG Miller used TRADOC approved training slides, training aids and described content well while giving his block of instruction. The training slides and training aids used were, L225 Student Handouts and Practice Exercises, as well as, AR 25-50 and AR 600-8-22, respectively. The reason for SSG Miller’s class on how to write a memorandum is to ensure all BLC students are educated, and aware, of how to write a memorandum in accordance with AR 25-50 and AR…

Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way. I believe that I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to my writing abilities, and hopefully that will continue to grow throughout my time in this class.…

The writing skills and techniques learned in my Essentials of Managerial Communication class can and will benefit me in my future classes as well as in my career in many ways. A few of the skills learned are including, but not limited to the appropriate ways of communicating depending on the audience, e-mail and business letter writing etiquette and also the importance of unbiased speaking in the workplace. It is important to have been taught these skills as I now know that there are many changes that need to be made to my future business plan and even in my current work day. I can use the skills that I was taught to give efficient business lectures and presentations. The class also taught me the importance of appropriate introductions and closing. Within this lesson I learned that every presentation should be altered based on the type of audience to whom it will be presented to as a presenter can easily lose his or her audience if the presentation is not created specifically for that audience.…

Choose one of the following topics, and write a clear, convincing, and detailed memo. Your memo should contain a minimum of three relevant primary examples. Try to come up with some unique and fresh ideas. You can also use any comparisons that might make your memo more convincing. Be sure your writing has been proof-read and contains few grammar, usage, or structural errors. You must use standard business structure (single spacing, block paragraphs). Freshman Composition has done so much for me academically. In previous years I have had to do little to no writing and even when we did there were no rules or writing process we had to follow. This class has built a great basis for me, towards my academic future. I do realize that I am far away from being even an average writer, but I enjoy and accept that challenge to myself on becoming a competent writer. Parts of my writing, that still need to work are my introductions and sentence fluency. While I believe that my strong suits are, that once I get past my obstacles of writing that I have the potential to write something that will make a difference, other than that all my skills are still very raw. I’ve learned many things during EN101, the…

After completing WRD 103 fall quarter I went into the new winter quarter with the former knowledge from the class. After taking WRD 103, I thought I had a good understanding on rhetorical appeals and how to write a well-organized paper. Because of my previous knowledge I had the expectation that WRD 104 would solely focus on how to research a topic and properly cite sources. However, I soon came to realize that the class will broaden my perspectives on academic writing even more.…

I have learned more in the five weeks of this dual enrollment class than I have in my previous years of both my middle school years and my freshman/sophomore year. My previous years have mostly been just trying to fine tune my acquired skills from elementary and middle school. Although, it has worked I still think that those courses did not allow me to flourish into the experienced writer than I am capable of becoming. The individual and collaborative techniques that professor Belmont has taught us have greatly heightened my skills in…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. One of my more enriching experiences occurred during my freshman year of high school. For years, I strove for straight A's, and for years I received them. Over time I constructed a mentality, and underlying self-confidence that I would receive an A no matter what. Due to my over-confidence, I was under the impression that I would not have to put forth much effort; however, near the conclusion of the second semester, I had a B in Pre-AP English 9. Despite my last push to earn a 90% in the class with the concluding assignments of the semester, my grade was finalized lower than I had wished for. It felt as if a five pound ball of lead materialized in the pit of my stomach. This experience, at first, devastated me to the fullest extent, and I…

While reflecting back on my initial writing abilities, I see the weak, uneducated style of writing. Today, after practicing throughout my essays this semester, I believe that I, in fact, have…
