The College and the hostel scenes were filmed at Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, although the fictional "Imperical College of Engineering" depicted in the movie is situated in the city of Delhi. The ragging scenes were shot in the girl's dormitory and the resident girls saw the whole scene (not shown). The actors admitted feeling uncomfortable while getting undressed to their underwear in front of them and getting their buttocks stamped. Aamir Khan's character Rancho says in the movie that people study engineering, then management, and then become bankers, so what is the whole point of studying engineering. This is exactly what Chetan Bhagat (the author of 'Five point someone', the book from which the movie has been adapted) did. He studied engineering from IIT, management from IIM, and became a banker. Today my respect for that idiot shot up. Most of us went to college just for a degree. No degree meant no plum job, no pretty wife, no credit card, no social status. But none of this mattered to him, he was in college for the joy of learning, he never cared if he was first or last. Farhan Qureshi (R. Some of the evidence that Moore offers to support his contention that America is a nation of idiots, by stating that only 11 percent of the American public bothers to read a daily newspaper, beyond the funny pages or the used car ads. This is great reflection of Moore’s attitude and style of grabbing the reader’s attention. With a little sarcasm, Moore can relate to the readers in simple terms. By calling America a “nation of idiots” is an effective way of getting us to listen. The way Moore sees it, schools use various tactics to educate its students and politicians have sued different forms of engaging the public, but the public is not interested.…

In this particular story, Michael Moore claims that the United States school system is so corrupt meaning that children are not getting the proper education that is needed. That the politicians and people of power are placing blame on the teachers and not themselves for how the school systems are being ran. In the beginning he uses what I like to call as a harsh diction of wording about the U.S. education system and then proceeds to use emotional strategy to get the reader to feel sorry for the American child who has to go through this awful school system not learning what is needed but just being pushed along in the system. I found this story quite humorous at times, but I think he could have refrained from the name calling to be able to get his point across. Later, as the story continues, his tone changes to a more relaxed demeanor stating statistics that back up his findings. I find this story effective because to me he brings up a lot of valid reasons to why Americans school system is failing our children, he states that the Congressman don’t want to take responsibility and place the blame on teachers when asked questions themselves about education could not answer correctly but they graduated from top universities with prestigious degree’s and not being able to answer high school level questions. Mr. Moore continues to give examples to why so I think the claim was…

“Idiot Nation!” Could Michael Moore begin an article with a less positive mental projection…I think not! In this article Moore bemoans the state of education at all levels in the United States. He drones on and on about problems in our schools without ever proffering solutions to any of them. Yes, in this diatribe he does identify several unacceptable outcomes of our education system. It would be interesting to know what this man would assume to do if he could wave a magic wand. How would he correct the ills that have plagued our schools for decades as well as some new challenges students face. In this essay I will attempt to objectively analyze the words that Mr. Moore puts on the page. I make that statement because I believe he has a fantastic grasp of the English language and uses speech to shock and agitate. We will find out toward the end of this essay that he also prods current students to follow his path of verbal bomb throwing in order to affect change in schools today.…

In this excerpt entitled “Idiot Nation”, Michael Moore details his frustration and anger at the sorry state of the United States education system and the role the US government has had to play in its downfall. So how does Moore characterize the politicians and pundits with regard to the state of the US education systems? Well, in a typical scathing rant he labels them as over privileged, ignorant idiots who have no business running the country. “An idiot leader of an idiot nation” (pg. 125 Moore 2002). This sums up the feelings Moore has towards this government and its leader, and ultimately his followers as well. A mass of uneducated idiots blurting random sports facts to each other on a daily basis, with the average spending less than 100 hours reading per year. While their President brags of his ignorance to his fellow Yale alumni. This however comes at little surprise to Moore as he astutely points out other examples of such ignorance among former US government officials. “We have quite a proud tradition of being represented by ignorant high ranking officials” (pg. 126 Moore 2002). This point serves as a marker for widespread ignorance among US politicians. The sort of ignorance that seems to filter down through the ranks and become apparent amongst the masses. Moore highlights this well as he observes that 70% of graduates from American colleges are not require to learn a foreign language, and that we as the general public believe the rest of the world should adhere to our policies and speak English. “Isn’t the rest of the world speaking English now? And if they aren’t, hadn’t all those damn foreigners better GET WITH THE PROGRAM” (pg. 128 Moore 2002).…

People in America can all agree that everyone has the right to receive a free education; high school graduates are encouraged to pursue higher goals and attend college. This leads us to believe that, in theory, we will become a smarter and a well-educated nation. According to Michael Moore, this is not the case. Moore is an American filmmaker, author, social critic and activist. He is the director and producer of Fahrenheit 9/11, which is the highest grossing documentary of all time and winner of the Palme d’or. In his essay “Idiot nation” excerpted from his book stupid white men and other sorry excuses for the state of our nation, Moore focuses on the collapsing educational system of the United States of America. He questions its overall structure and goes into depth by pointing out the flaws of it. He does this by blaming mostly the government and large corporations. Throughout the whole text, he emphasizes that the majority of Americans do have a bright mind but are not putting it to adequate use. Moore describes George W. Bush, as not being so smart himself; which makes us question… How smart are we really, as a nation?…

3 Idiots is a movie that highlights different aspects of life. Education and it’s flawed system, strict parents who never ask what their kids want, dealing with relationships, and surviving life with friends. What I like most about this movie is how it tackles a very serious issue/matter in society and still keeps it light. I talk about the flawed education system where students are taught that in life if you’re not first, you don’t matter. And that grades are all that matter and learning is only secondary. In writing this paper I cannot help but relate the movie in real life situations. I think the movie successfully relates to its audience especially, I think, to those who are crossing the path between graduating from school and entering the real world. Many graduating students can relate to the anxieties that Farhan and Raju experience as engineering students; the fear of not having a decent job to sustain and help their respective families. I think this resonates especially to us students here in the Philippines where getting good grades means getting a good job. But our protagonist Rancho thinks otherwise. And it can be seen in the ICE or Imperial College of Engineering in the movie. The dreaded principal “Virus” and his iron hand rule over the place, puts great pressure on his students. And we see how Rancho is openly going against this issue that has been there ever since. We all live by the saying of the Great Holy Guru Ranchoddas Chanchad; do not chase success! Follow excellence and success will follow you with its pants down which as we see as the movie progressed, is quite true for Rancho. In contrast to his two buddies, Rancho loved learning about engineering, he studied because he wanted to learn, study and discover; an attitude many students don’t possess. He believed that blindly cramming and memorizing terms would lead students nowhere and that they should understand what these concepts are. A couple of examples are the class where Rancho…

The movie is all about three engineering students namely Rancho, Farhan and Raju whose friendship stands the test of time. As Farhan and Raju search the valleys for their missing friend Rancho, their memories drift back to the days when they were all college roommates and Rancho incurred the wrath of their headstrong dean Viru Sahastrabudhhe by daring to propose radical theories that directly contradicted his teacher’s lessons. Viru was threatened by Rancho's talent and free spirit that he tried on a number of events to ruined the friendship of Rancho with Farhan and Raju. In contrast, Virus model student was Chatur Ramalingam. Rancho humiliates Chatur by substituting obscenities into the text as Chatur read his speech. Later, Rancho began dating Virus's pretty daughter Pia and they fell in love to each other. A conflict came when the three students were drunk and went in Viru's house to allow Rancho to propose to Pia. After that, Virus threatened Raju that he would be expel if he will talk to his best friends. Raju became paranoid and confused so that he decided to commit suicide because he didn't know what to choose and what to do. Raju recovered with the help of his family and friends. After that Farhan decided to pursue his passion in wildlife photography as his profession while Raju took a job interview where he passed. Virus was so heartless that he planned to fail Raju in his final exam but Pia confronted his father about it. She told Rancho about it and gave him the key. Rancho and Farhan went in Viru's house to steal the questions and gave it to Raju but he refused to cheat. Virus caught the trio and expeled them on the spot. However, Rancho gradually gained the deans respect by helping Mona to deliver her baby. Flashing back to the present day, Farhan and Raju uncovered some previously unknown facts about their old friend that led them to question everything they…

Almost a hundred Bollywood movies have had as their opening scene a long shot of Victoria Terminus, introducing Mumbai as sapno ki nagari. Arvind Swami’s lovelorn ‘Tu Hi Re’ on old fort reminds us of Bombay, whereas Ranbir Kapur’s ‘Wake up Sid’ sketches Mumbai on a realistic canvas. Dreams come true here, dreams shatter here, but life doesn’t go off the tracks. The locals move on, carrying few lakh dreaming hearts every day.…
