Per the Nederlander official site, David T. Nederlander started the journey into entertainment in 1912 when he purchased a lease of 99 years with a Detroit opera house. Since then the Nederlander name has been very well known in the entertainment world. Nederlander’s main goal is to expand and keep the theatre world alive by creating a happy and loyal customer base. He began to realize that the theatrics need to catch up to the times in technology. One of the new fads seems to be rewards programs. There are many stores such as Wal-Mart, Maurice's, and Price Chopper that have a rewards card program. This is a program offered to frequent shoppers. As you check out you simply swipe your card and for every dollar spent you receive a certain amount…

Property, Plant, and Equipment is the largest asset account for American Greetings, with a 2011 net balance of $241,649,000. American Greetings carries its property, plant and equipment at cost. Depreciation and amortization of buildings, equipment and fixtures are computed principally by the straight-line method over the useful lives of the various assets. The cost of buildings is depreciated over 40 years; computer hardware and software over 3 to 7 years; machinery and equipment over 3 to 15 years; and furniture and fixtures over 8 to 20 years. IFRS does permit the use of the straight-line method, resulting in a constant charge over the useful life if the asset’s residual value does not change per IAS 16. However, American Greetings would need to implement component depreciation in order to fully align its depreciation practices with international standards. Although component depreciation is permissible under GAAP, it is not often used in practice. American Greetings would need to depreciate each component of an item of property, plant and equipment separately if its cost is significant in relation to the total cost of the item. For example, American Greetings would need to depreciate its greeting card distribution plant in Danville, Kentucky, by separate components such as its roof, plumbing, and electrical systems.…

Many companies face a challenge that seems to burden them with contradiction: how to reduce transportation and operations costs while increasing customer service levels. Designing the right global supply chain network provides a solution to both issues. Although there are many factors to consider when designing a supply chain network, with the right partner the process is not overly complicated. The key is to analyze your network across the entire supply chain spectrum from source to consumption. Unlike other firms that consider DC-to-store or DC-to-customer. Implementing an optimal network is especially beneficial to those companies who must effectively and efficiently consolidate two different networks prior to or following a merger, as well as those who are considering expanding into new territories. Organizations that put off designing a new network, or making improvements to an existing one due to perceived complexities or complications, are actually putting their competitive advantage at risk.…

    Model Home Memo

While working as the Community Coordinator in a model home there have been several learning objectives that I have been able to achieve so far. First, in order to improve problem solving skills I have focused on the communication piloting to the last impression our homebuyers have immediately leading up to their closing. Once a homebuyer closes their home the relationship that has been building the past 10 or so months fades out. However, the last impression can hurt or help us since the subdivisions I work in have a close-net community. Information spreads quickly with our customers and prospective. Our homeowners are asked to give feedback at closing to rate our communication during the process. Communication plays an important role…

The accounting profession has been around in one way or another for as long as people have traded goods and services. As the transactions between people have become more frequent and complex the accounting profession has become more and more essential and the tools used to perform its functions have become increasingly advanced. For the most part, the days of writing every transaction in a journal and charting and adding accounts on manual charts is gone, replaced by integrated computer systems that often enter transactions into accounts with little or no user interface. These technological advances have…

The Core Competency Framework defines a set of skills-based competencies needed by all students entering the accounting profession, regardless of the career path they choose. The Framework is an online resource (www.aicpa-eca.org) that educators can utilize to develop or reform curricula to support the development of a set of competencies aimed at helping students acquire the knowledge and develop the talents that will lead them to personal success in the accounting profession. The Framework focuses on skills and is not structured around traditional subject/content areas or accounting services. A skills-based curriculum versus a knowledge-based curriculum is advocated because the body of knowledge and the accounting profession are changing so rapidly. Although knowledge requirements will change with time, the core set of competencies identified by the Framework will have long-term value and will support a variety of career opportunities for the future CPA. The competencies are arranged under the following three categories: Functional Competencies, technical competencies most closely aligned with the value contributed by accounting professionals; Personal Competencies, individual attributes and values; and Broad…

    Accounting Memo

When creating a memo, the first thing to do is to know and identify your purpose and your audience. Failing to know your audience can result in misinterpretation, needing more clarification or being altogether ignored. Considering your audience is a must, as it falls under the same category as knowing the purpose of your memo. Upon reviewing the given example, I would suggest using the commonly accepted format. The first of which “Date” should come before the “Subject”, as it is more professional and gives a smoother flow to your memo, who it is from and what it is about. Secondly, information to change or omit is the opening word “ TEAM-MATE”, as it is shown on the “TO” line who the intended recipient is. A memo needs to be short and precise. Since the words you can use are very limited, finding the right words and tone to use is imperative to get your point across efficiently. Use jargons with caution when creating a memo. Usage of jargon in our professions can be effective when talking with our colleagues in the same industry, but since this memo needed to change for our Executive Vice President as the audience, using accounting-specific language might not be appropriate. Changing the given example into a more simplified memo by lowering the number of paragraphs to a maximum of four can help you send your message be clear and concise. None of the sample paragraphs needs an indentation, as this is not a commonly accepted memo format. The next step is creating an introduction. Give a quick and brief overview of what the memo is about. I would suggest keeping the opening segment to a short paragraph. The purpose of the introduction or overview is to clarify recipient why they received the memo and why they should read it. I would recommend putting more urgency and specific dates and time instead of using “later this week” and “late this month” and addressing person by their title…
