1984 Passage Analysis

The significance of this passage in 1984 by George Orwell is that it teaches the reader that the Party controls everything. When O’Brien says: “I could float off this floor like a soap bubble if I wish to. I do not wish to, because the Party does not wish it” (Orwell), it shows how the Party is in total control of people’s actions. This helps the reader have a better understanding of the power that the Party has and what it is able to do.
