12 Years A Slave First I’ll start off by saying this was a good movie and it had my attention from start to finish. In is movie there was a man by the name of Solomon Northup who was a free slave born in New York. Solomon had a wife and two kids, and was also a great violin player. Solomon life seemed like it was all good until he ran into the wrong group of people. Because he was a good violinist people wanted to hear him so he got this offer from two white guys to work for them and make more money. And what he thought to be a good idea turned out to be a bad one. Solomon rides with the guys to a gathering where he was supposed to meet people he would be working for. Well it turned out that the two guys was setting him up to be sold into slavery, which is exactly what happened. He was slipped something in his drink that knocked him out and when he had awaken he was in chains and shackles. He was then terrified because just yesterday he was a free man and now he’s considered a slave. Guys come into the room where he is and tells him he is a Georgia runaway slave. And when he tried to explain he was a free man he was beaten by the white guy. Next he was sent outside to get washed up where he were joined by others who were also going to be sold. Next he was loaded on a ship and shipped across the waters. The first plantation he arrived at was owned by a guy called Master Ford. There Solomon would cut can and harvest it. This guy by the name of Timmy didn’t like the idea that Solomon was educated so every chance he got he picked at Solomon until one day Timmy attempted to whip Solomon for no reason and Solomon ended up taking the whip from Timmy and hitting him with it. Timmy left and returned with two other guys attempting to hang Solomon but one guy stopped them but still left Solomon partially hanging until Master Ford returned. Solomon was then shipped to another plantation where there he had to pick cotton. He got beaten

    Over the course of Harriet’s life, she lived in constant fear of every white person alive. In other stories, like the film “12 Years A Slave”, we watch an African American slowly capitulate to the power of white supremacy. Nevertheless, we do not see or hear how Solomon Northup, a free black man forced into slavery, fears all the white people around him. Yes, Solomon expresses signs of defeat through his facial expressions and limp gait, but we cannot fully understand how insecure he feels.
