Unit 11: Focus on Math - 11.03 Math and the Real World 1 (10 points)
Begin a one-day journal, where you record every math process you used during the day (no matter how small or trivial). You may want to record your experiences in a notebook that you carry around with you throughout the day. Use complete sentences to answer the following questions.

1. Write down all of the different ways you used math during the day you kept the journal. (You must use a day where you had to use math) You may also include ways that you frequently use math but didn’t happen to use on this day.
Had to calculate my exercise

2. Describe how much you used math during that day? Was it more or less than you thought?

I used quite a lot of math today, it was actually way ,more than I thought, Since I thought it was just for homework.

3. Now categorize the math that you used during the day you kept the journal. Write the different ways that you used math next to each of the following categories of math. Include all the different ways you listed in Question #1.

4. In which ways did you consciously and purposely use math?

When I cooked, since I had to measure the everything I put on the chicken.

5. Which ways were “unconscious” math (decisions or calculations made automatically without realizing you were doing math)?
When I was fixing the time on the stove and Microwave, since the power went out.

6. In which of your entries did you rely on technology (calculator, etc)?

When I was doing my homework, and practice problems.

7. What does this experience show you about math in everyday life?
It show's me that even though I USED to think 'I don't need math its not like I have to do math at a job' Boy was I WRONG! Math is something we use everyday even when we don't think about 'Ohh we are doing math while we are cooking!'
