Andrew Ball 17/06/2013
1:1 Summarise key aspects of legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice relating to own area of responsibility:-

The key aspects of current legislation and codes of practices within my area of responsibility would be the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSAWA) which allows further regulations to be enabled the key one of which would be the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulation (MHASAWR). Both these pieces of legislation have accepted codes or practices (ACOPS) which although not law, outline best practice which should be adhered to whenever possible, knowledge of these regulations and codes of practices would enable me to effectively deliver the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Health & Safety at Work qualification which is regulated by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations (Ofqual) (formally QCA) as a regulated awarding body the CIEH are able to submit qualifications to be accredited as part of the National Qualification Frameworks (NQF) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Diploma in Environmental Health or Accredited Degree in Environmental Health and EHRB Certificate of Registration 4. NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety

Eligibility is based on academic qualification, the bare minimum is having at least a bachelor’s degree, and an official transcript that clearly shows a major in health education or an official transcript that reflects at least 25 semester hours of coursework is required (NCHEC, n.d.). Then, a CHES exam application must be completed either online, pdf download, mail, or prescreen services. The application itself includes a signed form, application fee, official transcripts, and advisor letter if 90-day option is used (NCHEC, n.d.). Most people prepare for the exam by studying CHES study guides and suggested readings such as the Health Education Specialist: A Companion Guide for Professional Excellence 6th Edition, a Competency-Based Framework for Health Education Specialists — 2010, the Health Education Specialist: A Companion Guide for Professional Excellence, 7th Edition, and a Competency-Based Framework for Health Education Specialists – 2015. The National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety has been offered since 1989 and, at the time of this examination, there were nearly 113,000 holders of the qualification. The NEBOSH Certificate is recognised by employers and regulators, both in the UK and internationally, as an extremely worthwhile qualification for those with health and safety responsibilities but who are not engaged professionally in health and safety. Such persons include managers, supervisors and employee representatives. The Certificate qualification demonstrates much more than a basic awareness of health and safety issues; it shows that those holding the qualification, while not deciding organisational policy, are able to make informed decisions and suggest improvements on a day-to-day basis (within the limits of their competence) such that those for whom they are responsible are not harmed by work activities.…
