“Stranger Danger”, Gone Wrong
“Stop the car!” in a frantic panic voice as I was running after the family car. “Mom don’t leave me!” I yelled, as my family drove off without clue that I was not in the car with them. As I came to a halting stop, my heart was pounding a hundred miles a minute. I was sweating so much; it felt I had played a full game of basketball. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Perspiration and tears filled my shirt as I stood in shock at the corner 7-Eleven convenient store. A typical Friday gas up for our weekly routine trip to Austin had just turned into nightmare of an event. Asleep in the back of the wagon when we had stopped for gas, I woke up and went into the store to buy some candy. I didn’t tell anyone where I was going, understandably, being that I was only seven years old and I was only thinking about myself.

There I was. In a state of shock, with the Jolly Ranchers in one hand and money in the other. I couldn’t believe my eyes, what to do, what to say, where to go, were all the thoughts that rushed into my head. I quickly reacted with every survival skill my sister taught me walking home from school every day. A crowd had already gathered at the gas station, inquiring as to what had happened. People whom I didn’t know started to rush to my aid. The whole time all I could think of was “stranger danger” and the safety of my home. “Stranger danger!” I yelled with a broken crackled voice, as I ran from the people towards my home. I ran as fast I could, so fast Forest Gump couldn’t even keep up with me if he tried! The crowd of people cried out for me to stop as two ladies quickly jumped into their truck to follow me in hopes of providing me assistance. They asked me, “do you want a ride?”, “do you want to call the police?”, “are you ok?” and all I could respond was “stranger danger!” I agreed to let them give me a ride, but only if I rode in the bed of the...
