Mid-Term Examination Study Guide

Purpose: This guide provides a recapitulation of all assigned material, specific areas to review from these readings and/or media, questions course participants should be able to answer in an introductory manner, and main concepts addressed in respective lectures.

Assumptions: All course participants have read and/or watched all assigned material, have taken meticulous notes during all course meetings and/or acquired a good copy of notes for each course meeting.

Mid-Term Examination Location, Format, and Required Materials: The Mid-Term Examination will take place in our normal course meeting room, BEL180, from 2:00 PM – 3:20 PM on Friday, July 12, 2013. The Instructor will refer to this guide when constructing Mid-Term Questions. The Mid Term Examination format will be composed of:

• Multiple choice Questions (40 questions) • True/False Questions (10 questions) • Fill-in-the-blank Questions (15 questions)

World Urban Development • Key Urban Facts, Key Chapter Themes Textbook Chapter 1 • Urbanization Trends pp. 6-9 • Concepts and Definitions o Urbanization- movement from rural places to cities and the change in lifestyle that results from that movement o Urbanism- all aspects of human experience (political, economic, social) are effected by urbanization o Urban Place- the economy or workforce is not tied to agriculture. -higher population density o City- A political designation. A defined area which has a boundary. o Megacity- A city with more than 10 million inhabitants o Urban Area- the built-up area of a city or town, where buildings, roads and other urban land uses dominate o Metropolis, MSA, Combined Statistical Area ➢ Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA): ← 50,000 people in principle city and its surrounded area.
