Victory Speech at Spelling Bee
Dearest Fellow Spellers, Good evening to you all! I would like to convey to you all of my feelings about this week – these were some of the best days that I’ve ever experienced, and these memories will always stay with me. First, thank you Dad for all that you have done for me. You have been a fantastic coach, and if it weren’t for you and your lengthy word lists that you spent hours making, I would definitely not be up here. Thank you Amma and Sujan for encouraging me the whole time I was studying up for the Bee – you helped me greatly by keeping me on task and not getting me distracted. And thank you to my grandparents for coming all the way from India just to see me spell. Just having you here lightened my experience by so much. Also, thank you to my friends and classmates back home in San Diego for supporting me. This year was in fact only the second year that my school participated in the Spelling Bee. On my request, my English teacher had brought the bee to my school, and I would not be here without my teacher or principal. There are so many others that have helped me along this road of spelling, in fact too many to name. I extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one that has made this moment possible for me. I am so delighted to win this year’s title. It is such a great honor to have. I had never thought that I would be the one to stand up here in front of you all, since there are so many excellent spellers in this room. This was such a great experience that shall never be forgotten. I’ve made so many new friends that I will keep in touch with, and I have learned many life lessons during this endeavor. I’ve learned that no matter what happens, you should never give up your goals because of a small pitfall, because you never know when you will come across serendipity or a stroke of luck in the road ahead of you. If I had given up, I would never have made it this far. Don’t be disheartened for not doing as well as you maybe thought, because even

Hello, I am so honored to speak in front of all the parents, staff and my fellow students today. Wow guys we made it! These past 3 years have been full of so many memories that I know we’ll never forget. Think all the way back to 6th grade we were always the littlest ones and I remember feeling like a fish out of water. We were terrified of getting lost or being late for class, but excited to have a locker to decorate and change classes each period. It doesn’t seem like that was over 2 years ago at all. We came back in 7th grade, much more confident than the year before. We looked down to the new 6th graders, asking "Were we really that short just last year?" And by the end of 7th grade I was shocked that I was officially an 8th grader. 8th grade is defiantly my favorite year. I feel like I have everything under control. But next year is full of changes. We'll have free periods, more homework, electives, and an open campus. The new choices also bring new responsibilities that test us in figuring out how we grow from kids to adults. As we say goodbye on the last day we sit together as Balboa students, we reflect on what has happened the past 3 years, but also look forward to what is coming up in the next 4 years. My advice to future 8th graders is to keep up with your school work and try your absolute best and make lots of good, loyal friends that don’t get you in the bad kind of crowd. And most importantly, have fun! This is the last year you will be the oldest in the school for another 4 years, so enjoy it! I’d like to finish this speech off with this quote : A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.-Ayn Rand…

Good evening everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their night. My name is Keyona and I was the one of the 4 captains chosen for the 2011 Montclair High School Cheerleading Squad. During my 3 years on the squad, I’ve had so many memories, good and bad, that helped me grow as a person. Cheerleading throughout my high school career took part in shaping me as the person I am today. I’d like to congratulate this year’s squad for making it through the season successfully as a new team. There were a lot of ups and downs, but I think we handled each situation well. As the season progressed, I’ve formed bonds with many of the girls on the team that will last me way beyond my high school experience. Some of the girls I think more of sisters than team mates. You guys made my experience more than enjoyable by joking, laughing, and having fun every time I stepped through gym doors. Even if my day was horrible, SOMEONE made me laugh or smile and my frown was quickly turned upside down. I’d like to thank Ms. Rob and Ms. HB for giving me the opportunity to be captain this year. They taught me to have a tough skin and to keep my head up in any situation I face in life. If I had the choice to pick different coaches for the squad, I wouldn’t because nobody could take their place in my eyes. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my mother Lisa White for motivating me and being there whenever I needed her. Even though she punished me every Saturday after each home game with washing loads of dishes from when she made cookies the night before, it was worth it. Overall, the season was unforgettable and I wouldn’t give my spot up as captain for the world. Thank you guys and enjoy the rest of your time here at the…

Good evening, Parents, teachers, honored guests, and fellow classmate. As Benjamin desereli said, change is inventible and change will always will come. In our case we all knew that graduation was coming and that we are leaving .all of us as students should know that change is always going to come we just have to deal with it. Instead of becoming sad that we are leaving, we should remember all the fond memories we are going to have and keep with us. Just because we are leaving market lane physically does not mean we are going to leave market lane mentally or emotionally. Market lane will be in our hearts forever. Market lane taught us many things how to deal with hardships, deal with stress and to have a great time.…

We’ve been through a lot, KEEP, Hiroshima, Izu, Showa Park... wait I wasn’t really there in all of that. I’ve actually only been here for a year, but coming to ASIJ was a life changing experience, and I feel like I have been here for pretty much my whole life. As this year went by, I already felt like you guys were a part of my family and even in this year, that seemed to fly right before my eyes, we all have been through a lot. Fun times, hard times, sad times, and even those dreadful days with too many tests. Even if this is the American School in Japan, all of us come from all over the world and that’s what makes us global, and I had realized as the year went by that what’s unique about our grade is each and every one of us is different, with our own personality, hobbies, and character. Remember, Bonus 30 SEL guys. I learnt that we all had a unique way of expressing ourselves, which taught me to…

Hi, my name is Chapin Benway and I would like to thank you all for coming to our 8th grade Continuation Ceremony. I am honored to be presenting to you tonight as one of the valedictorians of the 8th grade class at Homestake Peak. When I transferred to Minturn Middle School in 6th grade, I was very apprehensive about starting a new school where I didn’t know anyone. However, there was no need for me to be worried. All of the students and staff welcomed me and made me feel as if I had always been a part of the community. Throughout the past three years we have all formed close friendships and created many memories. Whether it was normal classes or various fieldwork expeditions, we all formed a bond through these experiences that is irreplaceable. As a class we have worked hard to prepare ourselves for high school. We all have accomplishments to be proud of, such as 2,000 hours of community service. We have worked hard to exemplify our community traits and keep our grades up. Even though some of us may be going to different high schools or even moving out of state, we will always be connected. I would like to thank my peers for giving me a great middle school experience.…
