Moira’s bad attitude causes Barry to doubt his parenting skills and devours his confidence. Firstly, Barry‘s confusion in raising Moira alone, leads him to seek advice from others. W.D. The quote used by the girl, represents Barry the bird and Moira the captor and that Moira has more power which is causing Barry to be powerless. Furthermore, Barry’s anxiety makes him believe that Moira will confront him angrily. Moira says, “I’m smoking dope, six joints a day, and sniffing coke and participating in orgies,” (2). Barry causes himself to believe that if confronted Moira will say his worst nightmares, that she is doing drugs. In conclusion, Barry’s anxiety and confusion raising Moira causes him to have false beliefs and seek others advice.
The effects of Barry’s increased anxiety and confusion, develops trust and respect for Moira. First of all, Barry realizes that if he falls, only Moira could save him, affects him by showing that she can handle big responsibilities. Barry thinks, “The thought of giving her so much responsibility was like the prick of a thorn.” (3). Barry is affected when he realizes that like a thorn, Moira is sharp, but can handle tough jobs like a thorn protecting a rose. Next, while resting Moira un-expectantly speaks her thoughts catching Barry out of the blue. Moira proceeds, “I thought you were in trouble,” (4). Moira’s words affect Barry by showing his lectures and parenting did get through after all, and that she cared about him.
