The Hound of the Baskervilles was a very good page turner book. It had many clues to help you get a closer idea of who the real criminal was. As I kept on reading, the facts were getting clearer by the second and as different events past in the book I just wanted to keep reading the book to unmask that horrifying criminal and hope that he didn’t kill his next victim who was Sir Henry Baskerville at the end. In the paragraphs below I will be describing why I think Sherlock Holmes got involved in this case in the first place, why did he send Watson to pursue the case, rather than go himself or solve it with him, and If I was surprised to discover who the actual criminal was.
Sherlock Holmes got involved in the case of Sir Charles Baskerville’s death because Dr. Mortimer thought that Sherlock Holmes could help him with this case since he was considered the second best expert in Europe. Dr. Mortimer maybe heard from other people that Sherlock Holmes is a man who is a very dedicated to his work and is a very good investigator. Dr. Mortimer could have maybe also saw a newspaper that showed an important case solved by Sherlock Holmes. That must have showed an impression on Dr. Mortimer that Sherlock Holmes can help him with his problem. So he went on to Sherlock Holmes on Baker Street to present the case to him.
Sherlock Holmes sent Watson to pursue the case, rather than go himself or solve it with him for Watson’s own sake. If Sherlock Holmes would have went with Watson and Sir Henry Baskerville the criminal would have been worn to be on their guard meaning that they would have to be very careful of how they were going to plan things out. Then the case would be even more difficult to solve because the criminal could do things to mislead Watson and Sherlock Holmes into thinking something that is wrong. It was better for Watson to go alone because the criminal wouldn’t think
