To place you in context. As we all know, the human being has 5 senses and these senses are the information input in various forms. The intensity of the data or the stimuli collected by these senses, determines the residual effect or impregnation (souvenirs, memories…) in the brain. For example: You just have to think about the best souvenir you have of a favorite teacher and ask yourself why? you remember the particular situations. All answers regardless of the individual will indicate a strong feeling attached to the souvenir. That teacher has found a way of captivating is students in a positive way therefore creating bridges to the mind and openness to what is yet to come. Their curiosity has been stung!!! This phenomenon is a key factor in teaching and it can be attained in different ways, your creativity is limitless. Especially in tech studies, we can provide concrete objectives to create open minds and stimulate motivation in our students. The method or strategy you use to present a project to the students will make the whole difference in their implication and motivation. Example: Start with showing the end result of what they will produce. Take out a project, put it on the table and show them. Seize a moment of discussion and questions about it. This is the critical moment where you create your open minds and motivation in the students! You are putting in place the building blocks for success and engagement. Finally, I get to the main question which is my teaching style. It is mainly based on the concept presented to you. I use guided practices, demonstrations that implicate students directly by stimulating the strongest senses (visual and touch). All of this is accompanied by constant personalized feedback in all steps of project realization. Students build self esteem and confidence in their tasks. They grow emotionally stronger and kinaesthetically better. This also gives them a sense of accomplishment and the drive to keep on going.

This exercise has taught me a lot on my way of thinking, concentrating, and contact with people. I never knew that these learning styles determine how I perceive my everyday functions. Until now I always thought of myself being a Visual learner, I have to see it in order to understand it. I am a see it, to believe it type of woman. In order to understand and evaluate my own learning style; I first needed to understand what a learning style is. Hartley (1998) offers the definition that learning styles are how individuals approach various learning tasks, however as stated by Cassidy (2004) there is an overwhelming amount of definitions as there are theorists in the subject. In order so I could identify my prevalent learning style, I completed the Honey and Mumford learning styles questionnaire given by the university (Honey & Mumford, 2006), the results of which can be seen in Appendix 1. I discovered that according to this theory; my learning style was relatively evenly spread across the four learning styles (Appendix 2) with a slight leaning towards the pragmatist category. Having evaluated my own study skills I believe that my personal learning style takes from all categories of this particular model, for example; I am keen to try out new ideas (Pragmatist), I question the rationale (Theorist), I am open minded (Activist), I am a good listener (Reflector), I relish new experiences (Activist), I have strong beliefs (Theorist), I tend to speak my mind (Pragmatist) and I prefer concepts which I can apply to practice (Pragmatist).…

The best way for a person to learn depends on the person, of course. It is well know that people have different leaning styles that work best for them. The best approach for an instructor to take is to address a variety of learning styles with their teaching plan. It is also helpful to encourage students to understand their preferred leaning style. By the time students reach the college level it is often assumed that they have figured out the best and most productive way to study to retain information. Of course, this is not a correct assumption. Teachers should make students aware of the various learning styles and encourage them to consider their preferred style as they complete their studies.…

The way I will implement the recommendations for my personality type will be finding ways to encourage my understanding of materials through feedback and trying to have tasks defined in clear concrete terms. Some of the recommendation for my personality type and intelligence I have been already using it and, I can say the techniques works. I prefer to study, complete assignments, and learn alone. I can and do well in a group setting also but if you put me alone to complete a project and I will do much better. Another beneficial technique is reflecting on personal meaning of information which has helped me to better grasp material because it gives the material more meaning and helps me remember it. It is imperative to "Work to build weaker areas. In other words, use study strategies that don’t come naturally to you, in order to become better at them." (Carter, Kravits, & Bishop, 2007) To improve on areas of my learning styles and try to implement it into my daily routine. The importance of knowing what my strengths and weaknesses are is valuable because having an understanding of what techniques work for me is the foundation to learning and it helps me remember and learn more so that I may use my knowledge more actively as well as allows me to take advantage of what I am good at and improve what I know I need to work on. It is very important to learn and embrace your learning techniques because "Knowing how you learn helps you choose study techniques that capitalize on your strengths." (Carter, Kravits, & Bishop, 2007) By doing this I am improving myself and my educational pursuits. Also it is valuable to know the learning types of your classmates, especially in the traditional setting and even in the online environment, so that you can learn more from your classmates and they from you, so that together you can communicate and help each other learn more efficiently and improve each other's weaknesses, like when you give feedback on a classmates post.
