Role of Teacher for Pre-Schooler

When children join school, they often go through separation anxiety. Their innocent mind is not really aware of what they will face, how they should act etc. They find strangers all around. In such scenario, role of preschool teacher becomes immensely significant. They try to understand the emotions and feelings of the kids. They help children in overcoming their separation anxiety. Teachers get the child involved in fun activities of the pre-school education. This way, child is prepared to listen, follow directions and getting acquainted to the pre-school environment.

Teaching young children can be an extremely challenging task. A preschool teacher plays a major role in child’s life. A child’s experience with his teacher can make or break his interest in education and learning. The role of preschool teacher is not just limited to teaching lessons. They are also expected to make the kids socialize and interact with each other. A teacher is required to perform not only as a guide and mentor but also as someone who understand feelings and emotions of the children. A preschool teacher should be able to look into the minds of children and make them feel at ease. He needs to make learning an enjoyable experience for the kids. One needs to have understanding of child psychology, to become a successful preschool teacher. Children demand individual attention. A successful pre-school teacher always manages to pacify agitated kids.

A pre-school teacher will be interacting with very young children he/she needs to have plenty of energy, enthusiasm and excited to work with kids. Every child is not same and has different personalities. Preschool teachers focus on each and every child individually. Some children are quite shy when it comes to interacting with others. Parents and teachers should help them in becoming socially active. Group activities like playing in a team, sharing or taking turn etc form important parts of early childhood education learning.

Teacher needs to understand each student emotionally and will help with individual learning. Good teachers need a strong emotional intelligence and should have empathy towards students. Children possess different kinds of minds and therefore learn, remember, perform, and understand in different ways. Pre-School teachers devise strategies keeping in mind individual kid so that they grow properly. Pre-school teachers encourage kids to play indoor games. This helps in developing aptitude.

A teacher might have difficulty in teaching a student in more traditional, linguistic or logical ways of instruction. However, if we use a mix of media or multimedia, it becomes easier. Multi-Media are better able to assess learners' visual skills than are print media which is used in tradional educational system. Visual media help students acquire concrete concepts, such as object identification, spatial relationship, or motor skills where words alone are inefficient.

Teachers help in nurturing positive thoughts in the minds of their students and there by adopt an optimistic outlook towards life. It is the role and responsibility of a preschool teacher to instill a sense of comfort and lifelong love of learning in the child. If they are treated and taught well, they will always be inclined to go back to schools. Once the child starts feeling happy with his pre-school, it is helpful for its further education and subsequently for his bright future.
