Project Management task solution
In MS Project you need to do the following:
1. Input activity, duration and predecessor
2. Specify start date to July 2, 2012
3. Specify the holidays – what I did is to specify the January 1, Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday in November), and December 25 from 2012 to 2015 as non-working days by selecting Tools, clicking Change Working Time, and then selecting the date
4. Afterwards, you are now ready to answer the questions

Question 1

Question 2
Clear stadium site – Drive support piling – Pour lower concrete bowl – Pour main concourse concrete – Construct upper steel bowl – Install seats – Construct steel canopy – Light installation – Inspection
The critical path can be visually observed from the Gantt chart by looking at the red activities

Question 3
Based on the overview report for the project, duration is expected to be 695 days. This duration has already taken into account the holidays and that working days are from Mondays to Fridays.

We can also see from the Gantt chart view that the project is expected to be finished on March 12, 2015 as shown below

Question 4
Two tasks that might be candidates for overtime work if a reduction in the expected completion time is required are
1. Drive support piling, and
2. Pour lower concrete bowl
As a matter of fact any activity in the critical path is a candidate

Question 5
The seats will be critical during the Install seats activity which is expected to last for 140 days. This activity is a critical one; however, if the strike is only for 30 days, then the company will still be able to finish the project well before May 31, 2015. Hence if the strike lasts for 30 days, then there is no additional cost.
However, if the strike is for 60 working days, then the company will extend its project beyond May 31, 2015 until June 4, 2015 which means a delay of 4 workdays costing the company a total of $40,000.

The Gantt chat in the Microsoft project shows each activity and estimated duration as when it will be completed. The Gantt chat also reveals that the estimated completion time for the entire project will be July 6, 2012 which is one week after the projected date set by the board of directors which is June 30, 2012. This is clearly indicates that the project would not be completed on time as it was projected. In my opinion I think July 6, 2012 is not too far from the expected project completion date, therefore I would suggest the project manager to revise the schedule and reschedule.…
