Nineteen Minutes Thoughts
19 Minutes
• I like how she starts off explaining how 19 minutes relates to the book, it’s a good hook
• Josie’s relationship with her mom seems strained.
• Josie doesn’t listen to her mom and lies to her face.
• Josie is a fake: pretty on the outside but dealing with lots of stress on the inside.
• She is considering suicide
• Her relationship with Matt is a fake.
• Patrick has a stressed life as well, he wants to help as many people as he can but he is overloaded
• So far it paints a good picture of how I feel all the time—stressed and fake.
• The school seems weird…throwing pennies to wish luck to people
• Alex, Josie’s mom, is a young judge and finds it hard
• Alex puts on a fake personality as well
• Lacy is a nurse of some sort who helps people give birth as part of her job
• I don’t really understand Peter and that little blurp she throws in there. Her narrative can also be a little bit too jumpy at times I feel.
• The “cool” kids are mean for no reason and gossip like crazy
• They don’t act like the cool kids I know at West at least
• I don’t know why they are shooting spitballs
• Matt makes her feel fat. She doesn’t really want to be in with this crowd but otherwise she feels like a failure
• Again, the little blurp is confusing. I don’t understand the pe class segment. But it’s true that there are both athletic people and people who suck at sports in a pe class so therefore it is hard to teach
• Apparently Lacy, the nurse, is Peter’s mom. I don’t understand that part really
• Zoe Patterson seems unnecessary to me. I don’t get why she is in there creepily thinking about hooking up with a guy with braces
• Patrick listens on his police scanner and hears about the shooting at the high school
• He runs into the school, past dead kids, and finds the kid who shot the other kids. He subdues him. He sees Josie’s boyfriend shot through the head along with Josie, just scratched.
• It then jumps back to 17 years before showing when Lacy

Physical educational professionals should be demonstrating and a model of what they teach. Physical educators should value wellness and fitness and continue to do so throughout their respected careers. One professor suggests that the lack of skill and in depth activity content knowledge is a major problem in (PETE) programs and for the future of the physical education profession. There are two major factors that can be credited to this dilemma. The first factor is being an increase emphasis in major curriculums on classroom oriented theory and models at the expense of quality activity and the second factor is the lack of both tactile expertise and skills in many teachers. There is a wide variety of areas that physical educators should have knowledge of which includes the fundamental motor skills, individual and dual activities, team sports, aquatics, gymnastics, and educational dance. These skills are an essential part of the preparation of a physical educator. Every student that is studying to be a physical educator should be able to walk the walk not just talk the talk in other words be a role model for their students.…

What surprise me Robert Sapolsky spent all this time researching stress to mentioned how he, and I quote “The reality is I am unbelievably stressed and Type A and poorly coping. Why else would I study this stuff for 80 hours a week? He went on to say “No doubt everything I advise is going to lose all its credibility if I kneel over dead from a heart attack in my early 50s. I am not good dealing with stress. But one thing that works to my advantage is I love my work. I love every aspect of it” unquoted.…

Another reason for her to dislike Michael is the obvious fact that he is stealing Zoe away. This seems to be her main issue with him. She thinks that he, due to his handicap, requires too much attention from Zoe, “He’ll need you far too much”(l. 177, p. 5). To this Zoe replies, “That should feel familiar, then” (l. 178, p. 5) as a reference to what leads to another important issue in…

Kelly McGonigal begins this Ted Talk with a confession: she’s been giving people the wrong ideas about stress. Kelly has been telling people for years that stress will kill them and that it is totally and completely bad for them. Based on a study, though, this information that stress is bad for you is largely incorrect. The study in question shows that high levels of stress doesn’t kill people; rather, their perception of stress is what kills them. The study revealed that people with high stress levels that didn’t believe stress is harmful had a lower risk of death than those with high stress levels that believed stress is harmful.…
