When looking at leadership from a trait approach, several solid characteristics exist. One of those characteristics is personality. Personality is important especially in the work place and can set the tone of the environment. For example, if a manager/leader has a positive attitude and approach to employees during a situation then the outcome will be positive. When employees are happy and working in positive atmosphere achievements and goals are accomplished. An additional strength of the trait approach is that the approach provides a deep understanding of what makes an individual successful as a leader. This will help future theorists because he or she will have a list of traits that predict leadership.…

Leadership is the capability to influence a person or a group to achieve many goals (Robbins, 2005). To elaborate, leadership is a complex process by which a person influences others to accomplish a mission, task, or objectives and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent by applying their leadership attributes such as values, ethics, knowledge, skills, and belief (Clark, 2000). Most importantly, not all leaders happen to be managers, and not all managers are leaders (Robbins, 2005). Leadership means many things to different people, and as a student of the Marine Corps, I have studied many of them. I know the traits, the principles, the roles, and the concepts. I have read of the greatest leaders in the world, and of ones that led their men to pointless slaughter. I have personally worked for men I would follow to hell, and ones I would feel safer around if they were locked in a cell. From all this, I have learned and absorbed, and I find on a daily basis the biggest part of leadership is simply to lead from the front.…

Unethical leadership behavior involves acts which are illegal, or morally inappropriate to larger society (Jones 1991). There are variety of unethical leader acts such as abusive supervision( Tepper, 2000), supervisor undermining (Duffy et al., 2002), toxic leadership (Frost, 2004) and tyrannical leadership (Ashforth, 1994). Unethical leaders are normally oppressive, abusive, manipulative and calculatingly undermining (Tepper, 2007). For example, if his/her employees did something wrong or did not actually follow his/her instruction, an unethical leader would start to punish them instead of leading them to the right track. Also, scholars estimate unethical leader behavior costs U.S. corporations billions of dollars a year due to increased absenteeism, health care costs, lost productivity and costs came along with claims (Detert et al., 2007; Tepper, Duffy, Henle, & Lambert, 2006).
