Read Chapter 5 and answer the following questions and watch you tube video below:
1.What are the 6 main barriers to effective communication? Which barriers are easiest to surmount? Why? 1.The six barriers of effective communication are, 1)Physical barriers 2)Language barriers 3)Body language barriers 4)Perceptual barriers 5)Organizational barriers 6)Cultural barriers. In my opinion I believe that the easiest barriers to surmount are the physical barrier. Often people act as if nothing is bothering them, and the can hide their physical discomforts. 2.Why is nonverbal communication so important? How can you tell when non-verbal communication is effective? 1.Nonverbal communication is important because, in the text it stated that 38% of meaning comes from tone of voice, and 55% of meaning comes from the use of body language. Non-verbal communication is effective because it helps support verbal efforts that are displayed in the workplace. Nonverbal communication characteristics include: eye contact, tone, facial expressions, gestures, and also posture. 3.Why is active, effective listening difficult for many people? What are 5 strategies for improving listening skills within the American culture? 1.Active, effective listening is difficult for most because active listening requires the receiver full attention. So tips to help improve listening skill with the American culture would be to 1) take notes, 2) use nonverbal body language, 3)compose extra thinking time to listen to the speaker, 4) summarize speaker key points, and 5) ask questions. 4.What factors should you consider when you choose a communication channel for your messages? Should you always use the richest channel?
