CASE ANALYSIS

QUESTIONNAIRE: “Create a comparison between a convention center and a conference center; cite examples and facts that lead you to discuss more if does Philippine should or should not build more and bigger convention centers.”

ANSWER:

The difference between convention center and conference center is that a convention center is s a large building that is designed to hold a convention, where individuals and groups gather to promote and share common interests. Convention centers typically offer sufficient floor area to accommodate several thousand attendees. Convetion center is mostly popular in political meetings. On the other hand, Conference Center is smaller compared to a convention center. It is mostly popular in academic, news, and information exchange.

In my own opinion, Philippines should build more convention centers because there is a chance that in the coming years there would be a lot of meetings in between, we’re anticipating a lot of business opportunities. Even though we already have the biggest convention centers like for example, The Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), SMX Convention Center, World Trade Center, etc. Not just to have venues but to promote Philippines as a meetings and convention destination.

Mega-event planning is a niche within the hospitality industry that requires a specialized skill set and knowledge that takes years of experience to master. For hotels, having space dedicated to private events is a way to increase profitable business opportunities. According to Bladen et al. (2012:3), events are temporary, they reunite people, they can occur on a regular basis, but each of them are unique. Event Job Search (2012) adds that an event can be defined as a situation where a company presents itself directly to its targeted audience. However, none of those definitions are really precise. Indeed, the scope of the event industry is so diverse that it is difficult to really define it. The development of the communication channels such as the internet and the ease of travel have made the event industry growing (O’Toole 2010: XXI). Indeed, according to Britain for Events (2012), nowadays the event industry attracts 7 million of visitors per year in UK, the value of the event industry in UK is £36.1 billion and it employs 530 000 workers. In 2020, the events industry will be worth £48.4 billion.…

The Master Plan’s main goals were not only to develop the economic dimension of tourism, but also to help socio-cultural and environmental management. However, tourism in the Philippines must have comprehensive planning and support in its implementation.…
