Lesson#2
Pronunciation

Today we’ll discuss on Pronunciation. You know all the English alphabets are divided into to parts: consonant and Vowel. In this class we’re going to talk about Vowels.
I can divide the vowel sounds into four classes.

1. Pure Vowels.[Numbering 12: A, At/It, Av, Av, Avt, A¨vt B, C, G,G¨v, D, E,]
2. Diphthongs. [Numbering 8: AvB, GB, AD, AvD, BAv, GAv, DAv,]
3. Triphthongs.[Numbering 5: GBAv, AvBAv, ABAv, AvDAv, AvDAv,]
4. Semi Vowels.[Numbering 2: W,Y/ AšÍ¯Í-e, q/ IA, B.]

So we see that total vowel sound in English is 25.
I’ll try to make the matter clear to you all by discussing the vowels comparing with Bengali vowels.
The pure (12)vowels can again be divided into two parts:
1. Short Vowel: [ A, Av, Av, B, D, G, G¨v, ]
2. Long Vowel: [ At, Avt, A¨vt, C, E,]
The mark colon (:) denotes the length mark of the sound followed by.
Table Of English Pure Vowels.

10 Av hut, , cut, cup, but,

Rule-1: If there comes two or more vowels together they generally make long sound.

Rule-2: If there is a consonant after r, the r is not pronounced. And the vowel before the r will be long.

Speaking is such a normal part of our everyday life that we usually do not stop to think about what we are doing. It could be compared to walking: once you have learned how to do it, it becomes an automatic action that does not require conscious thought. If we had to think carefully about every single step it takes to produce speech, it would take us hours to form a single sentence. Luckily, there is no need for this, as long as we stick to our native language or dialect. However, if we would like to learn a new language or language variety, we could make good use of two linguistic branches: phonetics and phonology. Phonetics and phonology differ from each other in the way that phonetics in the study of the physical aspect of human speech sounds, while phonology is more about the abstract.
