Objectives

In this course, students will be: 1. guided to outline architecture for a database system, define and manipulate data, and understand the transactions process of database systems 2. provided with knowledge on modern database systems, data warehouses and on-line analytical processing, and the role of database in e-commerce 3. Explain the basic principles IT strategic planning, and the main techniques commonly used in the preparation of IS/IT strategic plans and Projects; By the end of the course, students should be able to: 1. Explain the principles of database management systems 2. Explain data modeling with emphasis on Relational Mode 3. Demonstrate the ability to design databases using E-R Models 4. Explain query processing and familiarize using SQL; 5. Strategic information system planning: what is involved in establishing a planning process 6.
