A. Course Description

The course is a multi-disciplinary approach that emphasizes the features of the TQM philosophy and includes elements relating to marketing, design of services (products) and processes, problem solving methods, and statistical applications for service organizations and manufacturing. This is also identifies a survey of methods used to apply principles of total quality management (TQM) in various organizational settings to improve quality and productivity. Topics include evolution of TQM theory; TQM models, tools, and techniques; development of TQM teams; production of graphs and charts; strategies for meeting customer expectations; benchmarking; and comparison of TQM applications.

B. Course Objectives At the end of this course, students are expected to acquire and perform the following: 1. Understand continual improvement, customer satisfaction, process improvement and total organizational involvement;

2. Understand both technical and philosophical issues surrounding quality management;

3. Apply quantitative and qualitative tools and techniques in appropriate ways to investigate and ultimately resolve product or service quality concerns; and,

4. Evaluate the use of TQM initiatives, tools, and techniques in an organization.
